About this file
This document is a technical specification (Section 11209) for submersible well pumps for surficial aquifer wells, prepared for a water infrastructure project. The specification details the procurement and installation of two submersible well pumps for a specific water system, with each pump designed to operate at 318 gallons per minute at 180 feet of head. The pumps are to be submersible well type, with a maximum pump speed of 3,500 rpm, fitted to an existing 12-inch well casing, and constructed primarily of 304 stainless steel. The specification covers comprehensive requirements for pump and motor design, including detailed technical specifications for motor characteristics, power cable, installation, testing, and performance standards.
The technical specification mandates stringent quality assurance and testing protocols, requiring the pumps to be manufactured by reputable manufacturers like Grundfos (or approved equal) with motors from manufacturers such as Franklin or Hitachi. The pumps must be capable of 24/7 continuous operation, with specific performance requirements including efficiency, power factor, and dynamic balancing. The project includes extensive testing procedures, including factory performance tests, field testing, well development, and disinfection processes. The motors are specified at 20 horsepower, 460 volt, 3-phase, with internal overtemperature switches and precise mechanical specifications. Additional requirements include comprehensive documentation, manufacturer's representative on-site for installation and testing, and adherence to specific water quality and regulatory standards.
