About this file

This is a Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for John Deere Keep Clean, a solvent product manufactured by Deere & Company, provided as a supporting attachment to an Orange County Waste & Recycling (OCWR) fire pump maintenance and repair services procurement. The document details the hazard classifications, composition, and safety information for product SDS numbers TY26827, TY26828, TY26829, and TY26830, issued April 20, 2018. John Deere Keep Clean is classified as a flammable liquid (Category 4) with additional hazard classifications including eye irritation (Category 2A), skin irritation (Category 2), aspiration hazard (Category 1), and specific target organ toxicity with central nervous system effects (Category 3). The product is composed of naphtha and distillates (petroleum) hydrotreated heavy and light (60-75%), 2-ethylhexanol (1-10%), and mineral oil, with a danger label warning that the product is combustible, causes serious eye irritation and skin irritation, and may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways.

The SDS establishes comprehensive safety precautions requiring the product to be kept away from flames and hot surfaces with no smoking, used only outdoors or in well-ventilated areas, and handled with protective gloves, eye protection, and protective clothing. First aid measures are detailed for skin contact, inhalation, eye contact, and ingestion exposures, with instructions to contact poison control or medical professionals as appropriate. The document specifies disposal requirements in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and provides transport information indicating the product is not regulated for domestic DOT transport in non-bulk packaging but is classified as an environmentally hazardous substance (UN3082) under international maritime (IMDG) and air (IATA) regulations with Class 9 hazard designation and Packing Group III. Ecotoxicity data indicates the product components pose risks to aquatic organisms, with specific LC50 and EC50 values documented for rainbow trout, fathead minnow, and daphnia magna.

Section 4: First Aid Measures

Eye Contact: Flush eyes with plenty of water for 15 minutes. Remove contact lenses, if present and easy to do. Continue rinsing. Get medical attention if irritation persists.

Skin Contact: Rinse skin with plenty of soap and water. If skin irritation or redness develops, seek medical attention.

Inhalation (Breathing): If symptoms of exposure develop, remove to fresh air. Seek medical attention if breathing problems or irritation persist.

Ingestion (Swallowing): DO NOT induce vomiting. If the victim is fully conscious, have them rinse their mouth with water.

Get immediate medical assistance by calling a doctor or poison center. Never give anything by mouth to a person who is unconscious or drowsy.

Most important symptoms and effects:

Acute: Causes skin irritation. Excessive inhalation causes CNS (Central Nervous System) effects of drowsiness and dizziness. Direct eye contact causes irritation with pain, redness, and tearing. Aspiration hazard. May be fatal if swallowed and enters airways.

Delayed: None expected

Indication of immediate medical attention and special treatment, if necessary: Immediate medical attention will be required for ingestions.

Section 5: Fire-Fighting Measures

Specific hazards arising from the chemical: Combustible liquid. Keep away from ignition source and open flames. Move containers from fire area if you can do so without risk. Burning may produce carbon monoxide, and carbon dioxide.

Suitable extinguishing media: Use Carbon dioxide (CO2), Foam, Dry chemicals, or water fog to extinguish. Do not use direct water spray.
