About this file

This is an attachment document detailing wastewater facilities for the City of Gainesville, Florida through its municipal utility Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU). The document provides comprehensive technical specifications for the Cross Creek Mobile Home Park wastewater system, which serves all homes in the park through a centralized collection and treatment infrastructure. The system comprises 1,400 linear feet of PVC gravity sewer line installed in 2008 with 47 service laterals and cleanouts, discharging into a receiving structure with two 2-horsepower pumps that feed an 8,000-gallon septic tank. From the septic tank, effluent flows through a lift station containing two 3.7-horsepower Flygt pumps, which discharge through approximately 2,600 linear feet of 2-inch PVC force main to a 12-acre drainfield located on a GRU-owned parcel off County Road 235. The drainfield, originally permitted in 1989 as an Onsite Sewage Disposal System by the Alachua County Health Department, contains two operational sections of 4,200 and 3,600 square feet.

The wastewater system is currently non-operational in its original design due to ponding issues in the drainfield coinciding with elevated water tables in recent years. As a result, GRU has discontinued gravity flow to the drainfield and now uses tanker trucks to transport wastewater from the septic tank to GRU's municipal treatment facility. This interim operation represents a significant operational and financial challenge, as the system was designed for permanent on-site treatment and disposal. The Alachua County Health Department maintains regulatory authority over the facility. All major equipment components have been catalogued, with pump replacements completed within the last five years, establishing a baseline asset inventory for potential acquisition and operational transfer.

Description of Wastewater System All the homes in the Cross Creek Mobile Home Park are connected to centralized wastewater system.

The wastewater collection system includes 1,400 linear feet of PVC gravity sewer line that was installed by GRU in 2008. The gravity sewer system includes individual services with cleanouts for each customer connection. The gravity sewer system discharges into a receiving structure containing two 2-hp pumps which pump the wastewater into an 8,000-gallon septic tank system. Prior to 2008, there was a gravity sewer system that had been installed in 1989 which was abandoned in 2008 with the installation of the improved system.

The solids settle in the septic tank and the effluent (without solids) flows into a lift station with two 3.7-hp pumps. This lift station pumps the effluent offsite through approximately 2,600 linear feet of 2-in PVC force main to a 12-acre drainfield which is located on a GRU-owned parcel located off of County Road

235. As shown in the attached figure, the drainfield includes a 4200 ft2 drainfield and a 3600 ft2 drainfield. Construction of the system was permitted as an Onsite Sewage Disposal System by the Alachua County Health Department in 1989, and the Alachua County Health Department is the regulatory authority for the wastewater system.

The drainfield was fully functional at one time. However, in recent years ponding had occurred in the drainfield coinciding with high water tables. Therefore, GRU discontinued pumping water to the drainfield and is currently using tanker trucks to haul wastewater from the septic tank and transport it to GRU’s wastewater treatment system.
