About this file

This document is a technical specification section (Section 332113.23) for Geophysical and Video Logging prepared by CDM Smith for the South Beaches Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Class I Deep Injection Well System project in Brevard County, Florida. The specification outlines detailed requirements for performing geophysical and video logging for injection well IW-1, which involves conducting multiple types of logging including color video survey, background and final gamma ray logging, high-resolution temperature logging, casing collar locator, and radioactive tracer survey. The logging will be performed over two depth intervals: 0 to 2,221 feet and 0 to 2,077 feet, with specific requirements for logging operator qualifications, instrumentation calibration, log presentation, and execution standards.

The document specifies strict technical requirements for the logging process, including the need for a qualified logging operator who can interpret logs and explain results, use of calibrated geophysical logging tools, and provision of digital logs in specific formats. The logging must be conducted in the presence of the Engineer, with 7 calendar days' notice required prior to logging. The specification mandates detailed deliverables, including 3 field copies of temperature logs within 3 hours, electronic transmission of video survey files in .MP4 format within 72 hours, and electronic copies of temperature logs in LAS and PDF formats. No payment will be made for logs deemed unusable or not representative of downhole conditions, and the Owner and Engineer reserve the right to add or delete geophysical logs as needed.

1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Logging Operator:

1. Qualifications:

a. A specialist in the acquisition and completion of geophysical logs, with the capacity to fully explain the logging results to the Engineer upon completion.

b. Knowledgeable in the interpretation of logs, to the degree that he or she can make decisions regarding accuracy, sensitivity, and representativeness of the logs and instruments.

2. Engineer reserves the right to reject the logging operator, if these demonstrations are insufficient.

B. Instrumentation:

1. Provide instruments adequate for the interpretation of the formation properties being studied. Calibrate equipment with standards that are independent of the logging equipment. Present calibration and quality control information on the logs. Calibrate geophysical logs per Manufacturer’s recommendations. Calibrate geophysical logging tools at the start of each run, where applicable, in the presence of the Engineer. Provide calibration records at request of Owner or Engineer.

2. Record on each log depth measurements that are accurate based on the depth control provided by the drilling tools or previous logs. If the measurement does not agree with the drilling tool depths or previous logs, recalibrate depth recorder and demonstrate accuracy before repeating the logs.

3. Run repeat logging sections over representative intervals to verify logging tool performance of all applicable logs.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1 GENERAL

A. Provide a geophysical and video logging system capable of producing logs in digital format.

B. Reference the depth data collected from geophysical and video logs to pad level or to a common datum as specified by Engineer. Equip logging and survey tools with a continuous depth recorder that displays on log output.

C. Calibrate geophysical logs per Manufacturer’s recommendations. Provide calibration records at request of Owner or Engineer.

D. Furnish pressure pack-off device or stand pipe sufficient to prevent uncontrolled surface flow and spills from the well during logging operations.

E. Geophysical and video logs to be run as summarized in Table 1 at the end of this Section.

Logging interval shall be total depth of hole or as determined by Engineer.

Class I Deep Injection Well System 332113.23 - 3 Brevard County, FL Issued for Bid

F. Imaging logs to be run over course of construction and testing include:

1. Static and dynamic Color Video Survey.

G. Provide gamma ray logging tools with scintillator-type detectors measuring the total gamma radiation detected.

H. Provide pumps, hoses, and fittings capable of pumping clear water into injection well to prepare well for video logging if necessary.

I. Presentation: Provide logs at a vertical scale of 20 feet to 1-inch. Obtain horizontal scale approval by Engineer. Provide caliper, gamma ray, electric, and sonic logs at scales of 100 feet to 1-inch, 50 feet to 1-inch, and 20 feet to 1-inch. Changes to these requirements may be made if, in opinion of Engineer, these logs are not required.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

A. Perform borehole geophysical and video logs by lowering sensing devices attached to a wireline into borehole and recording various physical properties of borehole.

B. Assisting Owner and Engineer during geophysical logging and data collection and interpretation, as needed.

1. Access and fluid management during logging.

2. No payment will be made for logs which are unusable or not representative of downhole conditions due to poor performance of the logging equipment. Owner and Engineer reserve right to add or delete geophysical logs.

3. Provide 7 calendar days notice to the Engineer prior to running all geophysical and video logs.

4. Preparation of well for geophysical and video logging, including the injection of clear water and/or casing brush trips.

5. Sequencing of logs will be determined by the Engineer.

6. Run geophysical and video logs in the presence of Engineer.

7. Provide Owner and Engineer access to logging vehicle at all times, and logging areas to be witnessed at Owner’s and Engineer’s discretion.

8. In the event that a logging tool becomes stuck or is lost in the borehole/wells, provide tool retrieval or replacement and the clearance of the borehole/wells without additional compensation.

C. Ensure geophysical logging is done as soon as possible after preparation. Run and record each log in a continuous fashion to qualify as an acceptable log. A combination of partial logging trips for a given stage of logging is not acceptable.

D. Conduct operations so that logging and video tools can be centralized in wells if recommended by the manufacturer.

3.2 COLOR VIDEO (TELEVISION) SURVEY

A. General: Conduct video surveys by a qualified service company using equipment capable of surveying and recording to the required depth. Use own equipment if it is capable of surveying as required and furnish proof of capability of equipment. Centralize video camera within borehole and have both side view (perpendicular to borehole) and down hole view with color capability and sufficient light source.

B. Ensure that wells and borehole fluid is of sufficient clarity as determined by Engineer to allow a video survey to be conducted. Pump into the well a quantity of clear water not less than three volumes of the borehole until well is sufficiently clear to discern casing integrity and identify formation features.

C. Include costs for pumping clear water into or out of borehole to achieve desired level of clarity for video survey and for rig and crew labor for all activities associated with preparing for performing and dismantling equipment related to video survey with testing costs.

D. Repeat video survey at own cost if water clarity is inadequate or borehole is not properly conditioned, as evaluated by Engineer.
