About this file

This is a Product Description document for a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) non-expendable equipment procurement through the Strategic Acquisition Center located in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

The VA seeks vendors to provide Leica® Automated Coverslipper Machines or equal alternatives for a VA-wide single Requirements contract. Automated coverslipper machines are AC-powered laboratory instruments designed to apply coverslips over microscope examination slides to protect specimens from mechanical forces or environmental exposure prior to microscopic examination and long-term storage. The devices operate with minimal technician involvement and complete automation of all procedural steps. The contract period consists of a 12-month base term with four optional 12-month extension periods. Vendors may quote alternative products that meet specified salient characteristics; however, all products quoted in technical submissions must be included in the pricing volume. Vendors may also quote ancillary products deemed essential to solution functionality, captured with zero quantity in pricing submissions.

Two primary contract line items (CLINs) are specified with distinct performance requirements. CLIN 0001 (HistoCore Chromax CV standalone and related accessories) requires a minimum throughput of 250 slides per hour on glass coverslips, while CLIN 0007 (HistoCore SPECTRA CV) requires minimum throughput of 400 slides per hour with 50 mm x 24 mm coverslips. Both configurations must support various coverslip sizes, adjustable mounting media volumes, xylene utilization, fume extraction via activated carbon filters, benchtop operation, and 115 VAC 60 Hz electrical specifications. Evaluation of salient characteristics will be conducted through literature review. The document lists 20 contract line items encompassing the base equipment, workstation kits, accessories, service plans, and ancillary components available for procurement.
