About this file
This is a specification document for Fiber-Reinforced Plastic Combi Fish Culture Tanks issued by the State of Maine. The specification outlines requirements for the supply and delivery of complete Combi Fish Culture Tank systems, which include a main tank, first feeder tray, egg tray, plumbing kit, and legs. The document establishes comprehensive submittal requirements, including detailed product data, shop drawings, assembly and installation instructions, and specifications for all components such as water inlet and outlet locations, tank dimensions and capacity, material compositions, pipe connection sizes and types, floor and wall slopes, interior and exterior colors, finishes with UV absorbers, screen samples, and accessory items. The State of Maine is fully responsible for shipping all fibreglass items to the project location, with the manufacturer required to adequately crate and protect materials from damage during transit. Damaged units may be rejected and returned to the manufacturer at the vendor's expense. All equipment and accessories are to carry warranties for materials and workmanship valid for a minimum of one year from final acceptance by the State of Maine.
The specification establishes strict material requirements prohibiting any materials containing cadmium, brass, bronze, copper, zinc, or their alloys that could contact fish rearing water due to toxicity concerns. The minimum fibreglass thickness is specified at 3/16 inches, with all factory perforations sealed with resin and gel coat. The document includes detailed laminate defect standards and permissible limits across multiple categories including blisters, chips, cracks, crazing, dry spots, and other manufacturing defects. Fish exclusion screens for the main tank must be manufactured from semi-rigid PVC with opening slots measuring 1/16 by 1/2 or 3/4 inches. Tank bottom center drain fittings are to be constructed of PVC as an integral part of the main tank, and stainless steel or aluminum fasteners are required for assembling component pieces to prevent corrosion.
