About this file

This document is a project location and log for a Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) maintenance contract for Interstate -75 (I-75) in Mackinac County, specifically covering areas in Moran Township and the City of St. Ignace. The project involves concrete pavement repairs, asphalt repair mastic application, and guardrail placement along approximately 30.5 miles of highway, including the main interstate and three connecting ramps (Ramp C, Ramp F, and Ramp N). The work will be performed on both northbound and southbound lanes, with specific focus on addressing pavement distresses such as spalls, delaminations, and joint damages. The project is based on 2020 Standard Specifications for Construction and will require maintaining traffic throughout the project using lane closures.

The contract includes detailed quantitative measurements for various repair activities, with significant quantities including 1,355 square yards of pavement removal and replacement, 1,001 linear feet of intermediate saw cutting, 273 epoxy-anchored lane ties, and multiple joint repairs (contraction and expansion joints). Additional work involves guardrail removal and replacement, with specific focus on protecting an existing light pole. The project will require careful coordination, hand digging near underground utilities, and adherence to specific technical specifications. The work is funded through MDOT and includes provisions for mobilization, contractor staking, and a concrete quality initiative, with a total budgeted amount of $13,000 for quality assurance measures.

CS 49025 MAINTENANCE PROJECT

LOG OF PROJECT

I-75

CS 49025 MAINTENANCE PROJECT

PROJECT LOCATION

This project is located on I-75 in Mackinac County, Control Section 49025, in the city of St.

Ignace and Moran Township. The point of beginning (Station 226+04, MP 4.361) is at Graham Ave, north of the Mackinac Bridge Authority Toll Plaza. The point of ending (Station 256+50, MP 4.942) is south of the US-2 and I-75 intersection in the city of St. Ignace. The project includes two north bound ramps (ramp C and N), and one south bound ramp (ramp F).

PROJECT MILE POINT LOG

All work will occur in the following segments:

I-75 NB: Station 226+04 (POB) to Station 256+50 (POE) I-75 SB: Station 226+04 (POB) to Station 254+50 (POE) Ramp F (US-2 EB to I-75 SB): Station 0+00 (POB) to Station 28+15 (POE) Ramp N (US-2 EB to I-75 NB): Station 0+00 (POB) to Station 20+84 (POE) Ramp C (I-75 NB to US-2 EB): Station 0+00 (POB) to Station 16+40 (POE)

The mile points for the POB and POE are approximate and their exact locations will be marked in the field by the Engineer. Pavement stenciling (metric) does exist at some locations within the project and is approximate.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The project consists of concrete pavement repairs, applying asphalt repair mastic, and guardrail placement, as detailed in the log, and as directed by the Engineer.

Construct all work items in accordance with the 2020 Standard Specifications for Construction, Special Provisions, Special Details, and/or Standard Plans. Traffic shall be maintained at all times throughout the project using lane closures as described in the Special Provision for Maintaining Traffic contained in this proposal.

ITEMS OF WORK

Concrete Pavement Repair

Location: Sta 226+04 (POB) to Sta 256+50 (POE)

Description of Work The existing concrete pavement was constructed in circa 1999-2000 and consists of 9.5-inch-thick Reinforced Concrete Pavement. Concrete patching was completed in 2020.

Complete concrete pavement repairs at locations specified in the log and as directed by the Engineer. The concrete patch log shall be used for estimating purposes only, actual locations of concrete patches will be as directed by the Engineer in the field. Epoxy anchored lane ties shall be placed into adjacent lanes for all patches greater than or equal to 15 feet in length. All locations for sawing and sealing of longitudinal and transverse pavement joints and asphalt mastic repair shall be as directed by the Engineer in the field.

Concrete grade P-NC will be required for all patches.

All contraction joints (CRG and CP) and expansion joints (ERG and ESC) shall be placed per Standard Plan R-44 series and as directed by the Engineer. Expansion joints (ERG and ESC) shall continue through all adjacent lanes along the same joint.
