1-4 PLACE OF PERFORMANCE
A. Four water storage tanks are located within the Ross Lake National Recreation Area along
Washington State Route 20:
a. Marblemount Water Tank: Turn north off SR 20 at Ranger Station Road near mile marker 105. Drive approximately 1 mile north to get to an administration area. The water tank is located beyond the admin site up a trail approximately ¼ mile. Park personnel will assist with powered toters to shuttle all necessary gear and equipment
b. Newhalem Water Tank: Turn south off SR 20 at milepost 120, just west of the town of
Newhalem. Drive approximately 0.6 miles toward the North Cascades Visitor Center, then turn left onto an unmarked gravel service road. The water tank is located approximately 0.3 miles from the turnoff. This water system is used seasonally, typically May through October.
c. Colonial Creek Campground: The unmarked gravel service road is located near SR 20 milepost 130, on the south side of the road between Colonial Creek crossing and the entrance to Colonial Creek Campground. The water tank is located approximately 0.2 miles from SR 20. A locked gate limits public access. This water system is used seasonally, typically May through October.
d. Environmental Learning Center: Turn north off SR 20 at milepost 127.5, drive across
Diablo Dam, then turn right and drive to the end of the road. The water tank is accessed by driving through the complex on a gravel service road approximately 0.4 miles from the main parking lot. The gate between the main parking lot and service road limits public access but is unlocked. This water system is used year-round.
B. There are two remote water storage tanks. One located in Hozomeen Campground which is at the northern end of Ross Lake next to the U.S./Canadian Border. The other is located within the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area, in the remote community of Stehekin:

Hozomeen:
a. Hozomeen Water Tank: From the upper loop of the Hozomeen campground there is a steep utility road the leads approximately 100 yards up to the water tank. This water system is used seasonally from May to September.
b. Hozomeen can be accessed via two routes. The first is to drive into Canada and up the
Trans-Canada Highway/BC-1 east to Hope, BC and then down the Silver Skagit Road and back into the U.S. Most of this road is dirt and is currently under construction due to flooding in 2021. The road will be intermittently closed due to construction needs so scheduling and communication will need to be done with the project contractor. The second way to access Hozomeen is via boat. This would require getting reservations with Ross Lake Resort and/or Seattle City Lights to get ferried across Diablo Lake, driven up the Ross Dam Road, and then ferried up Ross Lake (approximately 25 miles) to Hozomeen. It can not be counted on that there will be any vehicle support at Hozomeen to move gear/equipment the approximate 1 mile to the water tank from the dock. For closure information on Silver Skagit Road visit www.gov.bc.ca - Transportation and infrastructure projects - B.C. Highway Flood Recovery Projects - Silver Skagit Road - Province of British Columbia (gov.bc.ca).

d. There is no cell coverage or internet in Hozomeen.
Stehekin:
a. Stehekin Landing: From the Stehekin Landing, which serves as the transportation hub for passenger ferries and barge transportation, take the gravel service road south. The water tank is located approximately 0.4 miles from the Landing, up the hill from the Golden West Visitor Center. This water system is used year-round.
b. Stehekin is completely disconnected from the national road network and is only accessible by boat, plane, barge, or trail. Maps, description, accommodations, and services may be viewed at http://www.nps.gov/noca/planyourvisit/stehekin.htm, www.lodgeatstehekin.com, www.stehekinvalley.com, and www.stehekin.com.
