1 INTRODUCTION

The United States Department of Agriculture Natural Resources Conservation Service (USDA-NRCS) Texas State Office requires construction services for the repairs of Hickory Creek Dam Site 14 located in Denton County, Texas

1.1 Mission

The Natural Resources Conservation Service mission is to deliver conservation solutions so agricultural producers can protect natural resources and feed a growing world. The Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention Operations (WFPO) Program helps units of federal, state, local and federally recognized tribal governments (project sponsors) protect and restore watersheds.

1.2 Background

Hickory Creek Site No. 11, National Inventory of Dams (NID) No. TX00609, is a single-purpose earthen, flood prevention dam designed in 1969 and constructed in 1971. The structure is an integral part of the Hickory Creek Watershed Work Plan approved in October 1966 and supplemented in June 1968. Site No.

11 is located approximately 6 miles west of Denton and 3 miles northeast of Ponder, Denton County, Texas. The site is situated within the Grand Prairie land resource area of Texas.

A deficiency report and corresponding abstract (Appendix B) was prepared in July 2019 to investigate erosion along the upstream wave berm.

1.3 Scope

The upstream wave berm repair of Site 11 will consist of stripping and stockpiling the topsoil from the embankment eroded area; performing excavation and earthfill activities to achieve the specified rock riprap subgrade; placing and anchoring geotextile fabric on the approved subgrade; placing rock riprap to the required thickness and limits as shown in the construction drawings; backfilling the toe of the rock riprap with earthen materials; blending the earthwork above the rock riprap into the existing embankment;

establishing vegetation; and reconstructing the fence above the rock riprap..
