About this file

This document is a Questions & Answers file for Solicitation 12FPC325B0006 for Hickory Creek Sites 11 and 14, addressing several key project specifications and contractor requirements. The Q&A covers critical details including no irrigation requirements for seed installation, power supply responsibilities for the government's field office, temporary fencing for livestock prevention, earthfill disking specifications, and riprap rock requirements. Specifically, the contractor must source electrical power, operate a generator during construction work hours, install temporary fencing at Site 11 (which has cattle), use a minimum 34" diameter disc for earthfill, and procure riprap rock meeting ASTM D6092 standards with typical sizes ranging from 6"-16" and a specific gravity of at least 2.5, with a D50 of approximately 12".

1. Neither the specifications nor the scope of work indicates any irrigation or watering of the seed is required after installation. Please confirm that no watering of seed is required and that payment will be made to the contractor for Bid Item 4 following completion of the work outlined in Construction Specification 6 and payment will not be withheld until a certain amount of growth is achieved.

a. No irrigation is required per CS 6

b. No growth requirement as per CS 6

2. CS 8 Mob/Demob Section 4.a.(2)(f) requires the Contractor to supply power to the government’s field office. Has a utility source for power been identified for each of the sites? If so, could you please provide a contact at the utility company?

a. No. The contractor is responsible for sourcing electrical power.

3. CS 8 Mob/Demob Section 4.a.(2)(f) indicates that if power is supplied to the government’s field trailer by using a portable generator, the Contractor is required to operate the generator 24 hours per day with sound shielding. This will add significant cost to the project. Please confirm that this will be required.

a. The generator shall remain in operating condition 24 hours per day. It is expected the generator will be running during the construction work hours as per Construction Inspectors’ needs. (Based on past projects the actual time the generator is operating will likely not exceed the contractors’ work hours)

4. CS 8 Mob/Demob Section 4.a.(2)(i) requires the Contractor to erect temporary fences to keep livestock out of the work area. Please indicate on the drawings where these temporary fences will be required or indicate where livestock should be anticipated at each of the sites.

a. The Contractor shall prohibit livestock entry to the work area by the installation of temporary fencing.

b. As per the District Conservationist, Site 14 does not have cattle as of time of site showing. Site 11 does have cattle as of time of site showing.

5. CS 23 Earthfill Section 10. Requires the Contractor to disk each lift of fill material with 34” diameter disc. This will add significant cost to the project and seems atypical for a Class C earthfill item with the small quantities required for these sites.

Please confirm that this will be required.

a. The minimum disk blade size shall be 34” in diameter.

6. I’ve been reading through the specs and plans about the rip rap size. It says to get R-150 rip rap but doesn’t include a size. I sent the spec sheet to my supplier and they looked it over as well. What size rip rap is being required for site 11 and 14?

All rock riprap shall comply with construction specification 61, material specification 523, and ASTM D6092.

Typical size ranges from 6” – 16” with a specific gravity of not less than 2.5 with D50 approximately 12”. Size will vary per specific gravity. Rock mass shall govern as table 1 & table 3 of the ASTM D6092 and the table from Sheet 3 of the drawings.
