ATTACHMENT A
Fire Pump
1. The fire pump will be driven by a tier 3 diesel engine that is specifically U.L. listed and F.M. approved for fire pump service. The engine shall be of the open type, power unit, 60 cycle. The engine shall have a minimum of 190 BHP and a maximum of 1770 RPM. Engine to be provided with the following minimum basic accessories.
· Intake air cleaner
· 12-volt starting motor alternator and regulator
· 12-volt dual batteries complete with racks and cables
· Heat exchanger cooling system complete with raw water line from pump discharge to heat exchanger with necessary valves and bypass all pre-piped and wired by the pump manufacturer
· Engine preheater 115-volt, 1 phase, 1500 watt minimum, preconnected and piped with thermostatic and oil pressure control
· All wiring to terminate at the engine junction box for field connection to the control panel with number-to-number coordination
· Flexible exhaust connector and muffler
· Fuel system with 231-gallon double containment fuel tank complete with fuel gauge and mounting saddles
2. The pump and diesel engine shall be mounted on a common baseplate. The flexible coupling shall be provided with a coupling and flywheel housing guard. The pump shall be furnished complete with the following fittings:
· Capacity plate
· Automatic air release valve
· Suction and discharge gauges with fittings
· Hose valve test header
· (6) - hose valves, 2-1/2" national standard thread
· (6) - caps and chains for above hose valves
· Eccentric suction reducer (if required)
· Concentric discharge increaser or discharge tee (if required)
· System relief valve CLA-VAL 2050 B-4KG with x101 position indicator
3. The pump shall be field tested by a factory trained test engineer and the data from this test shall be submitted to the insuring authority and anyone requiring the information for their files.
4. The pump manufacturer shall be responsible for the furnishing of the following required equipment for that test:
· Calibrated ammeter
· Calibrated suction and discharge gauges within 1/4 of 1% accuracy
· Pitot tube and gauge
· Tachometer
· Fire Department play pipes -- one for each header outlet required for test
· 50 ft. minimum of 2-1/2" fire hose per each header outlet
5. The pump manufacturer shall also instruct the operating and maintenance personnel in the operation and maintenance of all equipment furnished under this section of the specifications and shall have full factory and maintenance available in the immediate area.
Controller
1. The main fire pump controller shall be a factory assembled, wired, and tested unit, specifically meeting the requirements of the latest edition of NFPA 20, centrifugal fire pumps and UL 508. The controller shall be U.L. listed and F.M. approved. Firetrol and Tornatech are two acceptable manufacturers.
2. The controller shall be of the combined manual and automatic type. Controller shall be for use with 120-volt fire pump engine. Components shall be housed in a NEMA 2 drip proof floor-mounted steel enclosure having a baked-on paint finish to maximize protection against the damp environment. It shall have a large door to allow access to all components which may be completely serviced from the front of the controller. The door shall include a full-size handle lock and a break glass panel for emergency. The controller shall be provided with a swing-out relay panel allowing access to all wiring for easy repair or additions.
3. The controller shall be provided with a four-position selector switch for manual, off, and automatic.
4. A pressure switch with access to the internal connections without the use of tools will be provided which, on a drop in system pressure, will cause the controller to open or close all circuits necessary to automatically start the engine. The pressure switch shall be adjustable and rated 10-300 PSI. It shall have independent high and low settings with the minimum differential of 6 PSI.
5. The controller shall also include facilities for starting the engine from a remote signal.
6. To assure the engine will start in an emergency, the test position of the controller switch shall start the engine by reducing the water pressure to the pressure control switch in the controller.
7. The controller will include a built-in battery charger that meets the latest requirements of NFPA 20. It shall consist of a single charger with an output for each battery and a common transformer. Charger shall have a current rating up to 25 AMPS. Individual volt and ammeters for each battery shall be panel mounted.
8. Provide automatic means of recording pressure in the system with seven (7) day charts to show system pressure and operation of the fire and jockey pumps.
9. The controller shall have light emitting diode (LED) type pilot lights above each field wiring terminal point which is used for interconnection to the engine. These indicating lights shall make it possible to verify proper operation of all normal automatic and manual functions along with continuity of all dry contacts for remote alarms.
10. Include a weekly test program timer to start the engine automatically once a week on a day at any time desired. Timer shall be solid state type with lcd display and battery backup good for a minimum of five (5) years.
11. Individual pilot lights and alarm contacts shall be provided. These contacts shall be both normally open and normally closed and be electrically isolated for wiring with either remote alarm panels as supplied by the controller manufacturer, or for use with ADT type alarm systems. As a minimum show the following:
· Low engine oil pressure
· High engine jacket water temperature
· Failure to start automatically
· AC power or charger failure
· Battery #1 failure
· Battery #2 failure
· Overspeed failure with shutdown
12. Contacts are to be included for remote indication of selector switch not in automatic. There shall also be two (2) individual sets of contacts for pump running.
13. All alarm contacts shall be rated 600 V, minimum 10 AMP, pilot duty. Additionally, they shall be suitable for direct switching of low energy alarm circuit of 6 V DC, minimum 10 milliamps, 0.6 VA, minimum.
14. The controller manufacturer, prior to shipment, shall hook up and test the entire controller as a complete assembly. Suggested manufacturers are Cutler-Hammer or Tornatech.
