About this file

Attachment 8 is a Legionella Water Testing Checklist that provides detailed guidelines for water sample collection in buildings. The checklist outlines seven key testing protocols, including requirements for the number and types of water sample sites per building. Specific guidelines mandate obtaining at least two samples per site, with the first sample dedicated to Legionella testing and the second sample measuring water temperature, pH, and biocide levels. The testing protocol requires sampling from diverse water sources, including at least two samples from ice machines or cold water sources and two samples from pure hot water sources without mixing valves. The document is associated with a Department of Veterans Affairs solicitation (Solicitation Number: 36C26125Q0768) for Legionella testing services within Veterans Health Administration's Veterans Integrated Service Network 21.

Testing Guidelines Directions for Water Collection:

1. No less then the number of required water sample sites will be obtained for each building
2. Each water sample site will have 2 samples obtained, with the first sample being for Legionella testing
3. The second sample will be for water temperature, pH, and level of biocide
4. At least 2 of the samples per building will be from an ice machine or pure cold water source
5. At least 2 of the sample sites must be from a pure hot water source (i.e. no mixing valve present)
6. If the builiding water outlet inventory incudes hot, cold, and mixed, each source shall be sampled
7. If building water outlet inventory is <20 outlets then 50% of the potential locations shall be sampled
8. Each quarter a sample shall be pulled from three sources: one (1) Each: cooling tower basin, chiller supply, and chiller return. (IF the chiller has a common header than one chiller sample can be taken.
MOST IMPORTANT - these must be random selections, meaning the same rooms should not be continually sampled each quarter unless there is no option due to the small number of outlets.
