About this file

This is an Analytical Report prepared by Eurofins Pomona laboratory for San Francisco International Airport documenting the results of a sludge profile analysis (Job Number 380-199554-1) collected on February 23, 2026, and received on February 24, 2026. The report presents comprehensive testing results across multiple analytical methods including volatile organic compounds (VOCs), semivolatile organic compounds (SVOCs), gasoline and diesel range organics, pesticides, polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), herbicides, metals, and mercury analysis. The sample was analyzed using EPA SW846 methods and related protocols, with testing completed between February 25 and March 3, 2026. The report indicates that the sample was diluted due to an abundance of non-target hydrocarbons, and several quality control issues are noted, including surrogate recoveries outside acceptable limits for PCB and pesticide analyses attributed to matrix interference, as well as matrix spike recoveries outside control limits for semivolatile organic compound analysis.

Key findings from the sludge analysis reveal elevated concentrations of several compounds including 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene (1700 ug/Kg), 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene (840 ug/Kg), carbon disulfide (4300 ug/Kg), naphthalene (1200 ug/Kg), and diesel range organics at 6400 mg/Kg. Metals detected include barium (31 mg/Kg), cadmium (4.5 mg/Kg), chromium (22 mg/Kg), copper (39 mg/Kg), lead (5.5 mg/Kg), nickel (26 mg/Kg), vanadium (9.7 mg/Kg), and zinc (190 mg/Kg). Many detected results exceeded California regulatory limits for soil cleanup, including exceedances for various volatile and semivolatile organic compounds. The report notes that insufficient sample volume affected certain quality control analyses, and the laboratory provided detailed action limit summaries comparing results to California Maximum Contaminant Levels (CAMCL), Primary standards (P), and other regulatory benchmarks to assist in compliance determination.

REVISION

The report being provided is a revision of the original report sent on 3/4/2026. The report (revision 1) is being revised due to client requested the report to be addressed to: Aaron Craig at SFO International - Mel Leong Treatment Plant.

The analytical test results presented in this report meet all requirements of the associated regulatory program listed on the Accreditation/Certification Summary Page, unless otherwise noted. Data qualifiers and/or narrative comments are included to explain any exceptions, if applicable. Regulated compliance samples (e.g. SDWA, NPDES) must comply with associated agency requirements/permits.

· Matrix-specific batch QC (e.g., MS, MSD, SD) may not be reported when insufficient sample volume is available or when site-specific QC samples are not submitted. In such cases, a Laboratory Control Sample Duplicate (LCSD) may be analyzed to provide precision data for the batch.

· For samples analyzed using surrogate and/or isotope dilution analytes, any recoveries falling outside of established acceptance criteria are re-prepared and/or re-analyzed to confirm results, unless the deviation is due to sample dilution or otherwise explained in the case narrative.

Receipt The sample was received on 2/24/2026 9:25 AM. Unless otherwise noted below, the sample arrived in good condition, and, where required, properly preserved and on ice. The temperature of the cooler at receipt time was 6.0°C.

GC/MS VOA

Method 8260B: The following analyte(s) recovered outside control limits for the LCS associated with preparation batch 570-701022 and analytical batch 570-700852: 1,2-Dibromo-3-Chloropropane. This is not indicative of a systematic control problem because this was random marginal exceedances. Qualified results have been reported.

Method 8260B: The following sample was diluted due to the abundance of non-target hydrocarbons: SFOI Sludge Profile (380-199554-1). Elevated reporting limits (RLs) are provided.

No additional analytical or quality issues were noted, other than those described above or in the Definitions/ Glossary page.

GC/MS Semi VOA Method 8270C: The method blank for preparation batch 570-701060 and analytical batch 570-701610 contained Di-n-butyl phthalate above the method detection limit. This target analyte concentration was less than the reporting limit (RL) in the method blank; therefore, re-extraction and/or re-analysis of samples was not performed.

Method 8270C: The matrix spike (MS) recoveries for the following sample associated with preparation batch 570-701060 and analytical batch 570-701610 were outside control limits: (380-199554-E-1-B MS) and (380-199554-E-1-C MSD). The associated laboratory control sample (LCS) recovery met acceptance criteria.

No additional analytical or quality issues were noted, other than those described above or in the Definitions/ Glossary page.

Gasoline Range Organics No additional analytical or quality issues were noted, other than those described above or in the Definitions/ Glossary page.

Diesel Range Organics No additional analytical or quality issues were noted, other than those described above or in the Definitions/ Glossary page.

Herbicides Method 8151A: Due to the low density of the sample matrix, the initial volume(s) used for the following sample deviated from the standard procedure: SFOI Sludge Profile (380-199554-1). The reporting limits (RLs) have been adjusted proportionately.

8151A

Method 8151A: The continuing calibration verification (CCV) associated with 570-703468 recovered outside the control limits on one column. Results are confirmed on both columns and reported from the passing column.
