Summary of Special Packaging Instructions
This document contains Special Packaging Instructions (SPIs) issued by Lockheed Martin for multiple parts, specified on DD Form 2169. The instructions provide detailed packaging, preservation, marking, and shipping requirements for aerospace components manufactured by Lockheed Martin.
The document covers three primary parts: (1) Part 697054001 (BETATUBE), a small component requiring Level A and B packaging with preventive coating preservation, polyethylene wrap, and bubble wrap in reusable containers per ASTM D 6251 and D 1974 standards; (2) Part 697056002 (SPINNER), a larger component requiring physical protection with polyethylene cushioning and fiberboard inserts in specified containers; and (3) Part 697039001 (PROPELLER ASSEMBLY), a large item (2000 lbs, 168" x 96" x 104") requiring stretch wrap application to propeller blades and specialized handling for both land and air shipment. For the propeller assembly, land shipment requires blade covers secured to the conveyance and installed at final delivery, while air shipment mandates blade covers remain installed throughout transport with straps routed over the leading edge to prevent composite damage. All parts require marking per MIL-STD-129, cleaning via suitable processes, and compliance with European Union requirements regarding wooden containers and pallets as detailed in Notice 1, 2, and 3. Storage of propellers requires all six blade covers to remain installed.

17. NOTES/DRAWING CONT.
1. LAND SHIPMENT. Propeller will be prepared for over-the-road (OTR) ground shipment in accordance with the following instructions.
A. With Propeller installed on transportation dolly, apply stretch wrap (plastic film, NSN 8135 01 321 4201 or suitable substitute) to each propeller blade. Start at the base of the blade and work toward the tip, insuring that each wrap overlaps the previous wrap layer and is open toward the base of the blade. Ensure that no composite surface is left uncovered/exposed.
B. Ensure blades are flat-pitched.
C. Secure propeller hub as follows: In the absence of the original hub cover that was installed on the Propeller at original delivery, secure the hub in accordance with T.O. 1C-130J-17, Section 2-23. PROPELLER
PRESERVATION AND PACKING PROCEDURE.
D. Secure six (6) serviceable propeller blade covers (NSN 1730661589132) to conveyance (dolly or trailer) as appropriate, to ensure they arrive undamaged at final destination. Do not install blade covers on propeller blades for Land Shipment.
E. At final delivery, after Propeller is removed from the OTR conveyance (flat bed trailer), install six (6) blade covers on the Propeller prior to local movement by truck, tug or forklift for delivery to base supply.
2. AIR SHIPMENT. Propeller will be prepared for Air Shipment in accordance with the following instructions.
D. Install six serviceable propeller blade covers. Route straps around counter weights and back to the blade cover to secure for transport. Ensure covers are bottomed out on the blade. (NOTE: Straps routed over a blade MUST pass over the leading edge, NOT the trailing edge. Straps routed and tightened over the trailing edge can cause damage to the composite material.) Secure excess strap. Do not remove blade covers for loading into aircraft. Blade covers must be installed on all six blades during loading operation and remain installed for the duration of transport.
3. STORAGE. In storage, Propellers must have all six blade covers installed.
