This document is a detailed technical specification for security glazing from the United States Department of State for the Bandar Facility Maintenance project. The specification outlines requirements for laminated security glazing comprised of glass and glazing-plastic sheets, including insulating panels and proprietary panels with special fabrication. Key technical specifications include compliance with industry standards from ASTM and GANA, requirements for environmental performance testing, quality control procedures, and specific performance criteria such as forced entry and ballistic resistance certification by the Bureau of Diplomatic Security.

The specification prescribes detailed requirements for glass and polycarbonate materials, including chemically strengthened glass, polyvinyl butyral interlayers, and spall liners. The glazing must meet stringent performance standards, including windborne-debris impact resistance, safety glazing compliance, and specific optical distortion limits. The document provides a comprehensive glazing schedule with performance characteristics for a specific glazing type (GL-01), including requirements for light transmittance, reflectance, U-value, and solar heat gain coefficient. DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

Protect laminated security glazing panels against face and edge damage during entire sequence of fabrication, handling, and delivery to installation location. Provide protective covering on exposed faces of glazing plastics, and mark inside as "INTERIOR FACE" or "PROTECTED FACE."

Treat security glazing as fragile merchandise, and packaged and shipped in cases or racks, not comprised of wood manufactured with phenols, and blocked together in a mass. Do not use plastic or polyethylene sheeting, or extruded polystyrene. Storage and handling shall comply with Manufacturer's directions and as required to prevent edge damage or other damage to glazing resulting from effects of moisture, condensation, temperature changes, direct exposure to sun, other environmental conditions, ground contaminants, and contact with chemical solvents.

Protect sealed-air-gap insulating glazing panels from exposure to abnormal pressure changes, as could result from substantial changes in altitude during delivery by air freight. When windows will be installed in a location that has a different above sea level elevations than where they were manufactured and as a result will cause the glass to deflect, provide temporary capillary/breather tubes which do not nullify applicable warranties on hermetic seals.

Temporary protections: Security glazing shall be temporarily protected with manufacturer-applied compatible, peelable, heat-resistant film. This film shall be peeled by Contractor for inspections, and re-applied by Contractor, in accordance with manufacturer’s recommended procedures.

Edge protection: To cushion and protect glazing edges from contamination or foreign matter, the four edges shall be sealed the depth of glazing with continuous standard-thickness TPU or Santoprene tape. Alternatively, continuous channel shaped extrusion of Santoprene shall be used, with flanges extending onto faces of glazing.

Conduct thorough visual inspections of the glazing prior to packaging.

Pack replacement glazing panels with no more than two panels per crate. Provide replacement glazing tape, setting blocks, spacers, and other required accessories, packed in the same crate as the glazing panels.

Include packaging that clearly lists non-compatible materials for temporary protection during construction and cleaning. Include this information on the manufacturer’s website, product literature, warranties, and other documents provided to the construction team and building occupants.

Store materials in a dry, well ventilated location. Keep handling of materials to a minimum, and carefully protect materials from soiling and from condensation and other harmful moisture. Provide vapor-permeable materials for protection during shipping. Do not trap moisture within or adjacent to windows.

Conduct thorough visual inspections of glazing before installation. Inspections should include removal of glazing stops, if applicable. Do not install glazing with cracks in the polycarbonate.
