PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Pre-blended, ready to use mortar for grouting stone paving NOT subjected to heavy traffic, class P4, P5 and P6, compliant with UNI 11714-1:2018.

Mapestone GR-ECO is a product from the Mapestone range used to create architectural stone paving with filtering properties and may be used to create architectural stone paving for use by pedestrians and light vehicles.

Mapestone GR-ECO and sustainability

Thanks to its special formulation, Mapestone GR-ECO reduces the level of CO₂ emissions responsible for climate change by up to 95% compared with traditional grout. For example, when renovating a piazza with an area of around 500 m², using Mapestone GR-ECO instead of traditional grout saves almost 10 tonnes of CO₂, the equivalent of 100 fewer car journeys from Milan to Rome or the planting of 130 trees.

Mapestone GR-ECO is a highly sustainable product, in that its reduced impact on the environment safeguards our planet and the absence of harmful substances guarantees the health of end users.

WHERE TO USE

Mapestone GR-ECO is used for filling grouts in architectural paving subjected to light loads, such as access areas to homes, hotels and carparks subjected to light use by vehicles, and for pedestrian zones, pavements and porticoes (class P4, P5 and P6, compliant with UNI 11714-1:2018).

Mapestone GR-ECO is ideal for installing the following:

▪ cube blocks;

▪ cobblestones;

▪ smolleri bricks;

▪ binderi bricks;

▪ low-thickness slabs;

▪ solid block or basoli paving stones;

▪ small terracotta bricks and blocks;

▪ interlocking slabs;

▪ thick porcelain elements.

TECHNICAL CHARACTERISTICS

MAPESTONE

GR-ECO

Pre-blended grout made from natural fibres and selected aggregates for grouting architectural stone paving for pedestrian and light vehicle use

SENSITIVE BUT UNCLASSIFIED

Mapestone GR-ECO is a pre-blended product made from natural fibres of vegetable origin and selected mineral aggregates for filling grout lines in natural stone paving elements.

Mapestone GR-ECO is easy to use and just needs to be mixed with water.

This means that dosing errors for the binder and when choosing the type of aggregates by installers are avoided, which could otherwise affect the rheological behaviour of the grout.

The binder component in Mapestone GR-ECO has self-healing properties while the fibres hold water and then release it in the form of vapour, similar to a sponge.

Mapestone GR-ECO is suitable for creating paving with filtering properties.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Apply Mapestone GR-ECO when the surrounding temperature and the temperature of the substrate and stone are between +5°C and +30°C.

Mix Mapestone GR-ECO with the recommended amount of water stated in the application data table (approx.

7.5 litres per 23 kg bag) to form a fluid consistency. This phase is particularly important because it creates a cohesive, homogeneous mix, unlike when grouting using the “broadcasting” method.

It is recommended to include expansion joints in the paving in accordance with UNI 11714-1:2018.

To guarantee or increase the durability of paving, use an installation mortar from the Mapestone TFB ranges for the installation bed for the stone elements.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE

The product is applied as described in the 3 following stratigraphies:

1) Loose-bed installation (section 1)

For creating filtering paving

▪ Spread a 5-7 cm thick layer of gravel or crushed stone on the ground or other filtering surface.

▪ Install and compact the stone elements with suitable compaction equipment.

▪ Prepare Mapestone GR-ECO with an electric mixer by adding the specified amount of water (25-35 % by the weight of product).

▪ Before pouring Mapestone GR-ECO, the stone elements must be wetted and the grout lines must be clean and free of stagnant water and any loose material.

▪ While the stone elements are still wet, spread the mixed Mapestone GR-ECO with a rubber rake or pour it into the grout lines using a suitable container with a spout.

▪ Completely fill the grout lines created according to the size of the stone elements with Mapestone GR-ECO, which should be at least 25 mm deep.

▪ Clean the stones before Mapestone GR-ECO sets using traditional methods, such as by lightly hosing them down or with suitable cleaning equipment.

▪ Wait until the product has dried before walking on the paving.
