About this file
This document is a draft Funded Space Act Agreement (FSAA) between NASA and an unnamed partner for the development of the Fission Surface Power (FSP) System. The agreement aims to establish partnerships to deploy an operational fission surface power system on the lunar surface, with two primary phases: Phase A (Commercial Deployment) involves developing and demonstrating the power generation system, and Phase B (Commercial Lunar Power Accessibility) focuses on making commercially generated power available to NASA, other government agencies, and commercial entities.
The partner will be responsible for deploying a fission surface power system with specific technical requirements, including a single reactor producing minimum 100kWe, utilizing High Assay Lower Enriched Uranium (HALEU) fuel, operating a closed Brayton cycle power conversion system, and designed to operate continuously on the lunar surface for a minimum of 10 years. The system must be compatible with the NASA Human-Class Delivery Lander, demonstrate risk assessment, document volatile organic materials, and comply with various safety, security, and radiation monitoring standards. NASA will provide milestone payments, launch and landing services, and technical support throughout the development process.
