NOTE:

1. The gradient and width of roadway ditches and the excavation and embankment slope ratios may be adjusted by the CO to assure adequate drainage and stability.

2. Fill and compact the top 12"± of the trench with low-permeability material. Use on-site material if possible.

3. Special rock embankment, mechanically-placed, (6" to 1' dia. rock).

4. Special rock embankment, mechanically-placed, (2' to 3' dia.

rock).

5. Adjust overall height as approved by the CO.

6. Adjust trench width as approved by the CO. Add erosion control on uphill side of trench to prevent soil plugging drain.

7. Encapsulate special rock embankment, as well as beginning and end stations of trench, with Geotextile, Class 1, Type C, Nonwoven (1' min. overlap). Geotextile shall be subsidiary to Item 252.

8. Round all earth slopes and all rippable rock slopes.

9. Excavate down to bottom of Special Rock Embankment layer and stockpile the excavated material. Once the Special Rock Embankment is installed, embank with the stockpiled material to the bottom of proposed Roadway Aggregate layer.

GRADING SUMMARY

Unclassified borrow quantity calculated using volumes adjusted for shrink/swell. An assumed value of 0.9 was used for calculations. The contractor is responsible for determining the shrink/swell on the borrow material.

BCY = Bank cubic yard - one cubic yard of material as it lies in the natural state.

CCY = Compacted cubic yard - one cubic yard of material after it has been compacted to specification density.

When directed, camber pipe culverts upward from a chord through the inlet and outlet inverts an ordinate amount equal to 1% of the pipe length. Develop camber on a parabolic curve. If the midpoint elevation on the parabolic curve as designed exceeds the elevation of the inlet invert, reduce the amount of camber or increase the pipe culvert gradient.

H equals the diameter of all round pipe culverts or the rise dimension of all pipe arch culverts.

See Section 704 for bedding and backfill requirements.

1.

2.

3.

Construct piping plug of impermeable backfill material at the pipe culvert inlet where granular material is used for backfill. Width may be adjusted to tie into impervious material.
