Use only lint free towels for wiping of surfaces. Wipe metal surfaces with IPA (isopropyl alcohol) or xylene unless otherwise required by compatibility and adhesion testing results. Seal joints watertight. Clean excess joint sealants from finished surfaces.

1. Cut and trim component parts of the glass canopy work during erection only with the approval of the manufacturer or fabricator, and in accordance with his recommendations.

Restore finish completely to protect material and remove all evidence of cutting and trimming. Remove and replace members where cutting and trimming has impaired strength or appearance, as directed by Project Director/COR.

2. Set components within the erection tolerances with uniform joints. Place components on shims and fasten to supporting substrates using bolts and similar fasteners. Use stainless steel shims at structural connections only. U shaped shims at structural connections are not permitted. Use aluminum, stainless steel, or high impact polystyrene shims at other connections.

3. Do not erect components which are warped, deformed, bowed, dented, defaced or otherwise damaged as to impair its strength or appearance. Remove and replace members damaged in the process of erection.

4. Coat concealed surfaces of dissimilar materials, and any ferrous metal components, with a heavy coating of bituminous paint, zinc rich primer or other separation in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.

5. No holes or slots shall be burned, cut into, or field drilled in any building framing member without the written acceptance of the structural engineer.

6. Make up threaded connections tight so that threads are entirely concealed.

7. A technical representative of the glass canopy manufacturer shall be present during the entire erection of the glass canopy work.

B. Glass Canopy Framing Erection: Set glass canopy framing members in strict accordance with the approved shop drawings in place, plumb, accurately aligned, and to angles and slopes shown, and within the tolerances indicated. Secure in place by bolting to supporting structure, unless otherwise indicated. Fit components accurately together to form tight joints.

C. Glass Canopy to Building Construction Gutter Fabrication and Installation: Fabricate concealed gutters from stainless steel sheet formed to provide a continuous, watertight connection from the canopy to the vertical Chancery and CAC building cladding. There shall be no longitudinal seams. Gutters shall have ends joined together by 20 mm wide locked and soldered cross seams. Slope to gutters to rain outlets. Coordinate and install gutter and rain drainage work, to provide leakproof, and noncorrosive canopy gutter installation. Form circular shaped outlet

GLASS CANOPIES 107316 - 17

tubes to the size required to fit into the storm piping downspout. Outside dimension of the outlet tube shall be 3 mm less than the inside diameter of the storm piping downspout. Upper ends of outlet tubes shall be flanged 12 mm and soldered to the base of the gutter. Outlet tubes shall extend not less than 100 mm into the storm piping downspout.

D. Horizontal (Overhead Point Supported and Patch Fitting Supported Glass Canopies) Glass Erection: Attach glass to framing members using erection sequence as required by the glass system designer, in strict accordance with the approved shop drawings. Glass units shall be accurately aligned, and set to angles and slopes shown, with uniform joints and within the tolerances specified. The installation of each light of glass shall be watertight and capable of withstanding temperature changes, and live loading, specified without failure of any kind including loss or breakage of glass, failure of seal, exudation of sealant and excessive deterioration of glazing materials.

1. Unless otherwise recommended by the system designer, fasten glass anchors to laminated glass under controlled conditions prior to hoisting and fixing to each framing support.

Follow the system designers recommendations for controlled tightening of glass anchors to glass.

2. Set glass lites with uniform pattern, draw, bow, and similar characteristics producing the greatest possible degree of uniformity in appearance. Fix distance between horizontal edges of adjacent glass lites so that the joints are of even width and that their outside faces are in alignment.

E. Install perimeter sealant to comply with requirements of Section 07 92 00 "Exterior Joint Sealants," unless otherwise indicated.

F. Concealed Sealing Components: Apply sealant and gasket components which are integral to the glass canopies in strict accordance with the each component manufacturers printed instructions.
