The contractor is required to design and install a steel hybrid utility bed on a 2026 Ford F-550 EXT Cab, 4x4, Diesel, Dual Rear Wheels vehicle (government-provided) with an 84" cab-to-chassis length. The bed must combine low-profile utility bed-type side-mounted compartments with a flatbed configuration to accommodate gooseneck trailer attachment and may be black in color. The contractor must accommodate an auxiliary 2-compartment fuel tank (government-provided) with minimum 90-gallon capacity in the front center of the bed directly behind the headache rack, with approximate dimensions of 47.5" L x 31" W x 24.38" H.

Technical specifications require water-resistant compartments with weatherproof electrical systems, including front boxes (28" x 36" x 15" deep) with no fewer than four swing-out or sliding trays, middle boxes (27" x 26" x 15" deep) with four trays, long horizontal rear-wheel-well boxes (70" x 15" x 10" and 63" x 15" x 10"), and behind-the-wheel boxes (6" x 16" x 15"). All wiring must be waterproof with grommeted penetrations, and dual trailer outlets must be provided for either gooseneck or tow-behind trailers. No used parts are authorized. The contractor must complete installation within 60 days after contract award or vehicle delivery to Sawtooth National Forest, whichever comes first, and must provide 72 hours' notice before installation. The Sawtooth National Forest will deliver the vehicle to the vendor within 250 road miles of 370 American Ave, Jerome, Idaho 83338; the vendor is responsible for towing beyond that distance. Project

0414 NEW SUPP FLATBED - 7151

General Information

1.0 Scope of Work

The requested bed will be for a 2026 Ford F-550 EXT Cab, 4x4, Diesel, Dual Rear Wheels, Cab & Chassis configuration with a Cab to Chassis length of 84". (Government Provided)

2.0 Background

The Forest Service Engineering Road Crew requires a heavy-duty vehicle to support field operations. The 2026 Ford F550 has been selected for its durability and capability to meet operational needs in rugged environments. This flatbed will facilitate their ability to transport large equipment, construction materials, and tools efficiently to remote job sites, ensuring timely completion of road maintenance and improvement projects.

Contractor Requirements

3.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks

The desired bed will be a steel hybrid design that combines low profile Utility Bed-type side-mounted compartments on a flatbed configuration to allow for a "gooseneck" trailer to be attached. Black in color is acceptable.

Alternative locations and layout of compartment, cabinets/toolboxes will be considered if they meet the overall storage space requirements and meet the water resistant needs.

Fuel Filler location - Must function as designed by Ford, at the designed height off the ground to facilitate fast fuel filling from a standard gas station pump. An empty tank should be refilled without repeatedly tripping the nozzle shutoff due to fuel backing up in the filler tube prematurely.

Compartments/Cabinets/Toolboxes - The compartments must be designed to be water resistant.

Use of Weather Trim Seals, Rain Channels and adjustable tension handles are desired.

Auxiliary Fuel Tank (Government Provided)- The bed will be required to provide room to house an auxiliary 2-compartment tank, overall minimum of 90 gallon capacity, located in the front center of the bed, directly behind the headache rack. The tank will include plugged bung holes for draining and a standard threaded port V1to attach a pump to each compartment. Approximate tank dimensions: 47.5" L x 31" W x 24.38" H or 47.38" L x 31" W x 24.19" H

Electrical - All lights will be "weatherproof" to rain and water splashing from the road. All wiring will be waterproof with exposed wiring protected from rocks. Any location the wiring passes through the metal structure, the hole will be grommeted to prevent chaffing of wires. The trailer wiring harness will provide dual outlets, one at each location, to provide hookup for either a gooseneck or a tow behind trailers.

No used parts are authorized.

Front Boxes - 2 side located boxes mounted at the front of the bed. One on the driver's side and one on the passenger side.

Access provided by waterproof doors (preferred) or lids. Desired both have, no less than, 4 swing-out or sliding trays.

Dimensions would need be approximately 28" x 36" x 15" deep.

Middle Boxes - 2 side located boxes mounted in behind the front boxes identified above. One on the driver's side and one on the passenger side. Access provided by waterproof doors (preferred) or lids. Desired both have, no less than, 4 swing-out or sliding trays. Approximate dimensions of the middle boxes would be 27" x26" x 15" deep.

Long over-the-rear-wheel well boxes - 2 side located, long horizontal boxes, one on the, driver's side and one on the passenger side, each mounted directly behind the Middle Boxes.

Access provided by waterproof doors (preferred) or lids. No trays are desired in these compartments. One of these boxes should have dimensions, of approximately 70" x 15" x 10" and the other could be shorter at approximately 63" x 15" x 10".

Behind the Wheel Box - 2 side located boxes mounted behind the rear wheel wells and under the long boxes mentioned above, One on the driver's side and one on the passenger side Access provided by waterproof doors (preferred) or lids.

Approximate dimensions of the rear boxes would be 6"x16"x15".

Specifications - Spare Tire Location & Mount

The Operator will mount the spare, at the location that bests suit their needs.
