SECTION C – SPECIAL CONTRACT REQUIREMENTS

GENERAL

Scope of Work:

The work shall consist of what is shown on the plans, stated in the specifications, and summarized below:

• Establish the traffic control signing as required.

• Remove trees and clear and grub as required.

• Excavate for footings.

• Construct the footings.

• Construct the abutments and wingwalls.

• Backfill the abutments.

• Grade portions of the channel banks under the new bridge.

• Install riprap adjacent to the new structure.

• Erect the steel girders.

• Place concrete deck.

• Construct the remaining backfill and a portion of the approach embankments.

• Install the bridge rails.

• Obliterate the old road and use the material to complete the new embankments.

• Install asphalt paving.

• Install the approach rails.

• Open the road new road to traffic.

• Close the road to existing bridge.

• Remove the existing bridge.

• Complete the grading at the location of the original bridge and road.

• Complete the riprap installation along the stream.

• Prepare the finished grading and apply seeding.

Project Location:

The bridge carries FSR 250 over the Alamosa River. The bridge is located southwest of

Monte Vista, Colorado and is just off of FSR 250 approximately 28 miles west of State

Highway 15 in the Rio Grande National Forest.

Work Procedure:

All work related to this project shall be done in accordance with all applicable OSHA and

State of Colorado regulations.

Final construction staging areas shall be designated by the CO. Security of the staging area shall be the responsibility of the Contractor.

If the contractor will be camping near the site, a permit must first be obtained. The permit request shall be made through the CO.

Waste Location:

Excess excavated material is to be wasted Lieutenant Creek Pit, approximately 12 miles away

(Latitude 37.392667, Longitude -106.398157). Excess material shall be graded to provide positive drainage. Coordinate grading and locations with the CO.

Construction shall conform to the specifications in the “Standard Specifications for

Construction of Roads and Bridges on Federal Highway Projects, U.S. Customary Units” publication FP-14, 2014 Edition. This publication may be obtained from:
