1. BACKGROUND

Building 229 at the USDA Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (BARC) is a specialized facility dedicated to poultry research. The work conducted in this building supports critical studies on animal health and disease prevention, which are essential for advancing agricultural practices and ensuring food security.

Maintaining a safe environment for both the animals and the staff is a top priority. The sprinkler system plays a vital role in fire protection, reducing risks to valuable research assets and living animals. Upgrading the sprinkler heads is an important step to ensure compliance with safety standards and to provide reliable fire suppression capabilities, safeguarding the integrity of ongoing research and the well-being of personnel.

2. OBJECTIVE
