About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document providing clarifications on a sprinkler head replacement project at a poultry facility. The scope encompasses replacement of all sprinkler heads (upright, sidewall, and pendent types) on a like-for-like basis in accordance with specifications outlined in the referenced Statement of Work (SOW). No shop drawings or design calculations are required. All replacement sprinkler heads must meet SOW Section 4.1 requirements, including appropriate K-factor, temperature rating, and type specifications. A hydrostatic test of the sprinkler system is mandatory upon completion, with all testing, inspection, and certification conducted per SOW Section 4 and applicable NFPA standards.

The contractor shall provide fire alarm outage support as outlined in the SOW, with access codes and coordination provided by the facility. System shutdowns are required to perform the work per SOW procedures. Work must occur during normal business hours unless otherwise coordinated, with contractor personnel requiring escorts and compliance with facility access procedures. Personnel must meet all qualification and certification requirements specified in the SOW. Work shall be sequenced to address rooms without animals first, followed by rooms with animals. Rooms 103-105 contain floor-located turkey pens that present hazards for sprinkler access, while room 138 contains roosters in mobile cages that may be temporarily relocated depending on replacement duration. Special ceiling heights in areas such as the mechanical room must be accounted for in project planning. No special handling or disposal requirements apply to removed sprinkler heads.

2. Inclusion of Pendent Sprinkler Heads

Yes, existing pendent sprinkler heads are included in the replacement scope and are part of the overall estimated count.

3. Replacement Requirements

All sprinkler heads shall be replaced on a like-for-like basis in accordance with the specifications outlined in the SOW. No redesign is required.

4. Shop Drawings and Design Calculations

Shop drawings and additional design calculations are not required for this project.

5. Fire Alarm Outage Support / Fire Watch

The fire alarm system may be isolated from the main operating system during the work. A continuous fire watch will not be required during the repair period. The contractor shall provide necessary fire alarm outage support as outlined in the SOW.

6. Ceiling Heights / Site Conditions

Certain areas, such as the mechanical room, may have higher-than-standard ceiling heights and should be accounted for in project planning.

7. Occupied Work Areas

Work will occur in active areas where poultry may be present. The contractor will be granted access to these areas without anticipated delays.

8. System Testing Requirements

A hydrostatic test of the sprinkler system will be required upon completion of the work. All testing, inspection, and certification shall be conducted in accordance with SOW Section 4 and applicable NFPA standards.

9. Fire Alarm System Access

Access codes and necessary coordination will be provided to support fire alarm outage procedures.

10. System Specifications

All replacement sprinkler heads shall meet the requirements identified in SOW Section 4.1, including appropriate K-factor, temperature rating, and type.

17. Animal presence

The rooms that have no animals in them should be worked on first, and then the rooms containing animals should be next on the list. For three of the rooms (room 103-105), there are turkeys that are in pens located on the floor which could be hazardous for getting up to the sprinklers. For room 138 there are roosters in the room, but they are in mobile cages and could be moved temporarily depending on how long it will take to replace the sprinklers.
