About this file

This document is a Specifications file for a Walk-In Growth-Chamber with Incidental Installation Services for the USDA-ARS NEA Foreign Disease-Weed Science Research Unit (FDWSRU) in Frederick, MD. The project requires a water-cooled, walk-in environmental plant growth chamber with specific technical requirements, including a minimum of 96 square feet of growth space, LED grow lighting with dimming and tunable spectrum capabilities, precise temperature and humidity controls (-5°C to 40°C), and a programmable controller for dynamic chamber controls.

The deliverables schedule includes material submittal within 7 days after award, chamber delivery 60 days after submittal approval, installation completed 14 days after delivery, and training and final inspection within 7 days of installation completion. The installation will be at 1301 Ditto Avenue, with specific delivery constraints including a 34.5" x 82.5" side door access and elevator limitations. The contract includes user training and a 2-year parts/1-year labor warranty, with the contractor required to meet specific governmental safety and work restriction requirements.

Specifications Project: Walk-In Growth-Chamber with Incidental Installation Services

GENERAL INFORMATION

1.0 Backround:

The Foreign Disease-Weed Science Research Unit (FDWSRU) conducts research on emerging plant pathogens in Biosafety Level (BSL)-3 and BSL-2 laboratories and requires an additional 4th walk-in fluid-cooled controlled environmental plant growth chamber to be procured and installed to support research capability needs at our locations. Currently, Bldg. 1301 contains 3 walk-in and 8 reach-in fluid-cooled controlled environment plant growth chambers that house research projects critical to the mission. Fluid-cooled heat exchange on the units ensures that excessive heat from chamber operations does not build up inside bldg. 1301. These plant growth chambers are serviced by two existing 56-ton York chiller units external to the building.
