SECTION 13123
REPLACE GLAZING ON GREENHOUSES A, B, C, D, & AISLES ON WEST SLOPING
ROOFS
1. GENERAL:
a. The work consists of furnishing all labor, materials, and equipment needed to install new glazing on the East roofs of four greenhouses at the Crops Research Laboratory Greenhouses A, B, C and D, with shared corridors between A&B and C&D in Fort Collins, Colorado. The west Sloped Greenhouse and corridor roofs have approximately 8400 square feet of sloped roof surface area.
b. It is recommended that the Contractor visit the job site to identify the site condition, location of electrical service main and panel, availability of utility services and other data required to perform the work.
c. SUBMITTALS: CONTRACTOR shall submit the information requested here for approval:
1. Acrylic sheet catalogue information.
2. Acrylic sheet warranty.
3. Acrylic sheet installation instructions from the manufacturer, including the rabbet depth for edge engagement and expansion allowance.
4. Catalogue information on fasteners, sealants, gaskets, ridge vent operators, and other miscellaneous products.
2. PRODUCTS:
a. Products shall be designed for the following:
1. Dead Load.
2. Live Load of 20 lbs. per sq. ft. on horizontal area.
3. Positive and negative Wind Loads of 40 lbs. per sq. ft. on
3 ft. boundary area of the roof and 20 lbs. per sq. ft. on the remaining field area of the roof.
4. Existing framing members shall be inspected for any existing damage that will impact the replacement of the damaged panels.
5. National model and local building codes are constantly being revised. Consult local codes for compliance with structural and safety glazing requirements.
b. Acrylic sheets:
1. Sheets shall be 16 millimeters thick, twin skinned rectangular, UV-resistant, insulating type, clear Acrylic sheets.

2. Sheets shall have a 10-year written warranty against yellowing, loss of light transmission and coating delamination, and 5-year written warranty against hail damage.
3. Manufacturers are Degussa CYRO Industries Deglas.
c. Aluminum extrusions:
1. Existing glazing bars shall be removed, salvaged, and re-installed to match existing framing system and shall be properly attached to the existing steel trusses and purlins.
2. Roof glazing bars shall be a dry glazing system which includes a NEW EPDM gasketed cap incorporating a thermal break.
3. Cap shall be designed to exert uniform, but not excessive pressure on the entire length of the glazing sheet.
e. Expansion and Condensation Control System:
1. Glazing system shall include allowances for expansion and contraction of the polycarbonate sheets.
2. Roof glazing bars shall incorporate condensation gutters to conduct primary condensation to disposal points at the eave or gutter.
3. EXECUTION. Install in accordance with the Manufacturer's recommendations and in compliance with the local code authorities.
a. SCHEDULING of the work shall be coordinated with the COR.
1. Demolition, removal, and installation of panels shall be done on a per panel basis, to minimize the exposure of the interior to the weather. Any panels removed shall be replaced that same day.
b. AVAILABILITY OF GREENHOUSES.
1. One GREENHOUSE Wing shall be available at a time.
A. NOTIFICATION. The Contractor shall notify the COR one working day prior to beginning work on each Greenhouse Wing.
B. MOVEMENT. The Government shall remove the plants from each Greenhouse Wing to the Greenhouse Wing across the corridor, making each Greenhouse Wing available for use by the Contractor.
C. NOTIFICATION. Near the Contractor's completion of each Greenhouse Wing, the Contractor shall notify the COR of the completion time within 4 hours but no less than 2 hours prior to it.
D. MOVEMENT. The Government shall remove the plants from
13123 Page 3 of 4 each Greenhouse Wing to the completed Greenhouse Wing in approximately 4 hours. The plant moving can occur on weekdays between 8:00 am and 10:00 pm. The Contractor can then use the next Greenhouse Wing.
c. Examination.
1. Verify existing openings are in accordance with recommendations of glazing manufacturer.
A. Verify that openings are correctly sized and within tolerance.
B. Verify that surfaces of glazing channels or recesses are clean, free of obstructions and ready to receive glazing materials.
2. Beginning of installation means acceptance of substrate.
d. Preparation.
1. Clean contact surfaces with compatible solvent and wipe dry.
2. Seal porous glazing channels or recesses with substrate-compatible primer or sealer.
3. Measure openings. Determine recommended edge engagement and expansion allowance. Cut sheets to exact size required with clean edges free of notches.
e. Installation.
1. Install glazing in accordance with instructions of glazing manufacturer. Use only glazing accessories approved by glazing manufacturer.
A. To meet the 40-psf. wind loading on the roof's 3 ft.
boundary, the South boundary shall have a 2 ft. wide sheet used with fasteners at 9 inches on center to the rafters.
2. Immediately prior to installation, expose sheet edges only by removing protective masking paper from both sides of sheet. Remove protective paper only sufficiently to facilitate installation in framing members.
3. Install polycarbonate sheets with coated surface facing the exterior as per printed instructions on protective masking paper.
4. After completion of all installation operations and immediately prior to cleaning, remove remainder of protective masking paper from both sides of sheet.
f. Cleaning.
1. Clean glazing in accordance with instructions of glazing manufacturer. Use only procedures and cleaning agents approved by glazing manufacturer.
2. Clean surfaces generally as follows:

A. Rinse with lukewarm water.
B. Wash with mild soap and lukewarm water.
C. Use soft cloth or sponge and gently wash to loosen dirt and grime. Scrubbing or use of brushes and squeegees will not be permitted.
D. Repeat rinse. Dry with soft cloth until dry and spotless.
g. Protection of Finished Work.
1. Tape polyethylene or other approved covering to framing members to protect glazing from damage from other construction operations.
