About this file
This specification document outlines the construction requirements for a pre-engineered pole building system at Coffeen Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area (SFWA) in Montgomery County, Illinois, under the jurisdiction of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR). The project encompasses a general contractor base bid including a pre-engineered pole building package, overhead doors, gutters and downspouts, snow and ice guards, and translucent side wall panels. Related work specified includes general conditions, grading and layout, excavation and backfilling, concrete work, electrical systems, sealants and caulking, and steel bollards. The specification requires the contractor or builder to have a minimum of five years' experience in erection of comparable building systems and approval from the building manufacturer. The project must be designed to withstand a 30 psf snow load, 20 psf wind load at 80 mph, and 2,000 psf soil bearing pressure in compliance with the Uniform Building Code.
The specification identifies nine acceptable pre-engineered pole building manufacturers, including Lester Buildings, Cleary Building Corp., Economy Builders & Supply, Morton Buildings, Sturdi-Built, Wick Buildings, O'Neil Building Systems, Graber Buildings, and FBI Buildings, though other manufacturers may be considered if they demonstrate equivalent quality and meet minimum requirements. Framing materials must include No. 1 Southern Yellow Pine posts treated with CCA, roof trusses conforming to Truss Plate Institute standards, and metal roof and sidewall panels with a minimum 29 gauge galvanized steel or aluminum composition and Kynar paint finish. The contractor must provide shop drawings sealed by a licensed Illinois structural engineer verifying compliance with applicable codes and specifications. The manufacturer provides a 40-year warranty on pressure-treated posts against rot and decay, a 5-year warranty on roof leaks and snow load damage, and a 40-year warranty on paint finish, while the contractor warrants workmanship and materials for one year.
