About this file
This document details a water filtration project for the Koke'e LRRS (Long Range Radar Site) facility. The current water supply system consists of one water tank filled by an offsite well, which feeds into a pumphouse and maintains 60 PSI pressure. The proposed water filtration system will be installed in a vacant room, with the back wall identified as the most practical location. A 1-inch ball valve allows isolation of the water supply for Building 1's bathrooms without disrupting the existing support agreement.
The filtration unit dimensions are 57" high, 69" wide, and 10.5" deep. An alternative outdoor installation was considered but deemed less favorable. Key considerations include the proximity of a GFCI electrical outlet, ability to penetrate the wall after the ball valve, and ensuring the unit does not obstruct windows or door movement. The kitchen will not receive filtered water as it branches off the main supply line. After installation, a super chlorination process is planned, with chlorinated water to be drained outside and left in the sun to dissipate before ground release.

Koke’e LRRS Water Filtration
Source
• One water tank filled by an offsite well
• The tank feeds into Bldg. 3 (Pumphouse) and into distribution pumps, maintaining 60 PSI
• Building 1 supply A 1-inch ball valve can isolate the supply line for the bathrooms in building 1 without effecting the supplied water required in the support agreement.
Isolation Valve
Water Pipe Feeding Locations Upstairs and Downstairs
• Top left, middle, right pic: This 1” PVC line services the entire upstairs bathroom and just the showers in the downstairs bathroom.
Location of Water Filtration System
• There is a vacant room that has been designated as the potential location for the new filtration systems.
Proposed Location (Back wall)
• Electrical outlet nearby (GFCI outlet will be required)
• Ample room for install and maintenance
• Penetrate through wall right after ball valve
• Another alternative could be to place the unit outside
• No wall penetration needed
• Would require a shed to shelter the unit from the elements and additional electrical outlets
Alternate install location
• Unit dimensions; H 57” W 69” D 10.5”
• No electrical outlet nearby for proposed location
• Unit would obstruct window
• The door would have the potential to slam into the unit when opened
48 Inches
Overview Water supply isolation without effecting the support agreement is easily obtained
The back wall in the proposed room is a more practical placement option
The water system will meet all requirements for the proposed filtration unit (Line size, PSI, Temp)
The kitchen branches off the main supply line on the backside of building 1 and will not have filtered water
When testing the isolation valve, it held tight with no water leaking by
Finally, after super chlorination, the chlorinated water can be drained into a drum utilizing the hose bib outside and left in the sun to dissipate the chlorine before releasing to the ground (Should be a quick process)
