About this file
This document provides a banned construction materials list for a federal contract opportunity to construct a cooperative science center and observatory at Mauna Loa Observatory. The list details various chemicals and compounds that are banned from use in construction for the project. These include chlorofluorocarbons, hydrochlorofluorocarbons, hydrofluorocarbons, halons, chlorocarbons, bromocarbons, iodocarbons, and several other compounds such as nitrous oxide, sulfur hexafluoride, carbonyl sulfide, benzene, and nitrogen trifluoride. Typical applications where these banned substances may be found include insulation sheets, blown foam insulation, spray-can dusters, and certain solvents, sealants, adhesives, glues, caulks, paints and paint thinners. The federal agency issuing the solicitation is the Department of Commerce National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
