SECTION 01009
PART 1: GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. Description of Work: Furnishing labor, equipment, supplies, and materials, to construct a steel construct a premanufactured 4,800 SF warehouse and 3,200 SF carport. The constitution will include demolition of 3 existing structure and constructing and installing a steel premanufactured warehouse and vehicle shelter, complete with heaters, electrical, overhead doors, man doors, windows, concrete floor and approach. The project will also consist of asphalt patching, crack sealing, and slurry sealing the existing asphalt.
B. Location: Work under this Contract is located in Sevier County, Utah. The work site is at the
Bureau of Land Management, Richfield Field Office, 150 East 900North Richfield, Utah 84701.

1.3 DEFINITIONS
A. Approvals: Approval of the submittals is an indication that the Contractor's submittals have been reviewed and that there are no objections, except as noted. Approval of deviations shall apply only to those deviations or omissions from the requirements of the drawings and specifications brought to the Contracting Officer's attention in writing. After approval of an item, submit a substitute for approval when the approved item cannot be purchased or delivered in time to avoid delay in completion of the project.
1.4 SUBMITTALS
A. Scope: Shall be according to Section 01330 - Submittals
1.5 CERTIFICATES OF CONFORMANCE
A. Requirements: The Contracting Officer may permit use, prior to sampling and testing, of materials when accompanied by Certificates of Conformance. Materials used on the basis of a Certificate of Conformance may be sampled and tested. Installation of materials on the basis of Certificates of Conformance shall not relieve the Contractor of responsibility for incorporating materials which conform to the requirements of the drawings and specifications. Material not conforming to those requirements will be subject to rejection, whether in place or not.
B. Format: The Certificate of Conformance provided by the supplier shall:
1. State that the named product conforms to the Contract requirements.
2. Either be accompanied with a certified copy of the test results, or certify that such test results are on file with the manufacturer and will be furnished to the Contracting Officer upon request.
3. Provide the name and address of the manufacturer, the testing agency, and the date of tests.
4. Set forth the means of identification which will permit field determination of the product delivered as being the product covered by the certification.
1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Codes and Standards: The work shall comply with codes and standards applicable to each type of work and as listed in the individual sections of these specifications. This Contract incorporates materials, applications, and tests by reference, with the same force and effect as when they were given in full text.
B. Conflict: Where a conflict occurs between reference documents and project specifications, the project specifications shall govern.
C. Measurements: Where approved manufacturer's diagrams and shop drawings give specific measurements or rough-in dimensions for equipment, these dimensions shall take precedence over dimensions indicated on the drawings.

D. Equipment: Prior to ordering equipment, verify dimensions and functions of equipment proposed for use including the electrical service requirements. Be certain the equipment is compatible with the structural and architectural features of the work, avoids conflicts with equipment of other crafts, and that it will fit in the space provided.
1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Delivery: Protect products incorporated into the work from damage while in transit to the site.
Products must be delivered in original unopened containers with manufacturer's name, brand designation, and contents legibly indicated. The containers shall bear the referenced specification number, type, and class as applicable.
B. Storage: Temporary storage is available at the Bureau of Land Management wareyard.
C. Handling: Load and unload products protecting them from damage.
1.8 PROJECT/SITE CONDITIONS
A. Access to the Work: Access to the project site will be on Federal, State, and Local paved highways.
1.9 SEQUENCING AND SCHEDULING
A. Work Schedule: The schedule shall be submitted at the pre-work conference. When requested, submit an updated schedule within 3 calendar days. As a minimum, the estimated start and completion dates shall be shown in the estimate.
PART 2: PRODUCTS
(There are no applicable requirements.)
PART 3: EXECUTION
3.1 PROJECT MEETINGS
A. Pre-Work Conference:
1. Will be held prior to the start of work. The Contractor will be notified in advance of meeting time, date and place. The purpose will be to review required work, project drawings and specifications, construction schedules, payroll and payments, and administrative provisions of the Contract.
2. The Contractor, subcontractors and the persons responsible for coordination of the work shall be present at the meeting.
3. Be prepared to summarize and explain procedures planned for the project and present the submittals requested in the specifications.
B. Progress Meetings:
1. To be held at the project site, or as determined by the Contracting Officer.
2. May be called by either the Contracting Officer or the Contractor. Request shall state who should attend and include an agenda.
C. Final Inspection:

1. To be held at the project site, or as determined by the Contracting Officer.
2. Notify the Contracting Officer in writing at least 10 working days before the completion date so the Government can schedule final inspection.
3. The superintendent shall be present during this inspection.
3.2 PREPARATION
A. Work Layout: Work Layout will adhere to the buildings under construction and areas otherwise identified by the Government.
B. Work Limits and Control Points: Will be identified by the Contracting Officer’s Representative.
3.3 SALVAGEABLE ITEMS
A. Requirements: Salvageable items consisting of metal siding, electrical equipment or materials and plumbing fixtures shall become the property of the Contractor. Government property shall be left on the site at locations designated by the Contracting Officer’s Representative. Items which have become the property of the Contractor shall be removed from the work site.
3.4 DISPOSAL OF DEBRIS
A. Requirements: Items or debris not designated as salvage for the Government shall become the property of the Contractor. Disposal of materials in a legal manner and payment of fees required is the Contractor's responsibility. Sale of material onsite is not allowed unless authorized in writing by the Contracting Officer. When hazardous materials are encountered during demolition operations, comply with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, laws, and ordinances concerning removal, handling, and protection against exposure or environmental pollution.
Burning of removed materials is not permitted on the work site.
3.5 AS-BUILT DRAWINGS
A. General Requirements: A complete set of full-sized prints, furnished by the Contractor for this purpose only, shall be kept at the site. As the job progresses, continuously maintain as-built drawings of the work. The changes shall be noted legibly in red pencil or red ink. These drawings shall be submitted to the Contracting Officer prior to final inspection. Should final inspection reveal changes in the project not so noted on the as-built drawings, record these changes on the as-built drawings within 5 working days of final inspection and deliver completed as-built drawings to the Contracting Officer.
B. Installation Changes: Records shall be maintained of actual installations where at variance with the work shown, where changed, or where not otherwise located by dimension, elevation or other reference on the Contract drawings. Actual locations and elevations of equipment and components (such as pipe, conduits and ducts) occurring within concealed areas shall be recorded by actual dimensions referenced from readily accessible and permanent structures or monuments.
3.6 WARRANTY
A. Requirements: Materials and equipment furnished under this Contract shall be covered by the most favorable commercial warranties given to customers for such materials or equipment. The rights or remedies provided herein are in addition to and do not limit rights afforded to the Government by other clauses of this Contract. With respect to warranties, expressed or implied, 01009-9 from manufacturers or suppliers for materials or equipment furnished under the Contract the Contractor shall:
1. Obtain warranties that would be given in normal commercial practices.
2. Require warranties to be executed, in writing, for the benefit of the Government.
3. Submit warranties to the Contracting Officer prior to the final inspection.
PART 4: MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
4.1 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT
A. Units: The work described in this section in addition to the work described in each section pertaining to steel building remodel work will be measured for payment as a lump sum.
4.2 BASIS OF PAYMENT
A. Payment: Prices and payment will be full compensation for the work described in this section and in other sections pertaining to steel building remodel work.

SECTION 01330
PART 1 GENERAL
1 .1 DESCRIPTION
A. The work of this section consists of submittal requirements before and during construction.
1 .2 SUBMITTAL AND APPROVAL PROCEDURES
A. As specified in the individual sections, forward submittals to the Contracting Officer’s Representatives at 150 East 900 North, Richfield, Utah 84701, allow 14 days for review approval prior to performing work. Unless a different number is specified, submit one reproducible original and two copies of each shop drawing, three copies of manufacturer's catalog sheets (cut sheets), three specimens of each sample, and three copies of all other submittals requested.
1. Shop Drawings: Include the following information with each copy of shop drawings:
a. Date.
b. Date of revisions (when applicable).
c. Contractor's certification that shop drawing has been checked for compliance with contract documents.
d. Details of fabrication, assembly and erection including connections and engagement to contiguous work.
e. Materials used.
f. All required dimensions.
g. The term "by others" shall not be used. All work to be performed by others shall be identified by Contractor or subcontractor name, discipline, or trade.
2. Samples: Samples shall be large enough to illustrate clearly the functional characteristics and full range of color, texture, or pattern.
3. Manufacturers' Catalog Sheets: Submit only pertinent pages; mark each copy of standard printed data to identify specific products proposed for use.
4. Manufacturer's Installation Instructions: When contract documents require compliance with manufacturer's printed instructions, provide one complete set of instructions for the Contracting Officer’s Representative and keep another complete set of instructions at the project site until substantial completion.
B. Contracting Officer reserves the right to require submittals in addition to those called for in individual sections.
C. Approved Equals:

1. For each item proposed as an "approved equal," submit supporting data, including:
a. Drawings and samples as appropriate.
b. Comparison of the characteristics of the proposed item with that specified.
c. Changes required in other elements of the work because of the substitution.
d. Name, address, and telephone number of vendor.
e. Manufacturer's literature regarding installation, operation, and maintenance, including schematics for electrical and hydraulic systems, lubrication requirements, and parts lists. Describe availability of maintenance service, and state source of replacement materials.
2. A request for approval constitutes a representation that Contractor:
a. Has investigated the proposed item and determined that it is equal or superior in all respects to that specified.
b. Will provide the same warranties for the proposed item as for the item specified.
c. Has determined that the proposed item is compatible with interfacing items.
d. Will coordinate the installation of an approved item and make all changes required in other elements of the work because of the substitution.
e. Waives all claims for additional expenses that may be incurred as a result of the substitution.
3. Construction Materials: The Contractor is encouraged to submit for approval products made out of recycled or environmentally responsible material.
D. Submittal Identification:
1. All sets of shop drawings, manufacturer's catalog sheets, samples, and other documents submitted to the Contracting Officer’s Representative must have the identification information stamped on the submittal.
2. Identification information shall be applied to the bottom right margin on each page.
Identification information on samples shall be applied to the most readily visible area on the sample or on tags attached to sample.
E. Submittal Numbering:
1. Number each submittal consecutively.
2. For re-submittals use the original submittal number, plus a letter suffix beginning with A.
3. Additional re-submittals of the same item shall contain the original number with the next consecutive letter.
F. Contracting Officer's Review:

1. Submittals will be returned disapproved without technical review if identification information is missing, not filled in, or if placed on the back of the submittal; an incorrect number or format of submittals is provided; the transmittal form is incorrectly filled out;
submittals are not coordinated; or submittals do not show evidence of Contractor's approval.
2. Any work done or orders for materials or services placed before approval shall be at the Contractor's own risk.
3. After reviewing submittals, the Contracting Officer’s Representative will return one copy of applicable (marked up) submittal sheets to the Contractor. Shop drawing review notations will be returned on the reproducible original shop drawing. All other submitted items will be retained. The Contractor is responsible for producing additional copies for his/her own use.
4. The returned submittal will be marked in one of three ways as defined below:
a. APPROVED: Acceptable with no corrections.
b. APPROVED WITH NOTATIONS: Minor corrections or clarifications required.
All comments are clear and no further review is required. The Contractor shall address all review comments when proceeding with the work.
c. DISAPPROVED - RESUBMIT: Rejected as not in accordance with the contract or as requiring major corrections or clarifications. The Contracting Officer will identify the reasons for disapproval. The Contractor shall revise and resubmit with changes clearly identified.
PART 2 PRODUCTS

1.3 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Testing shall not be performed until each system has been flushed or thoroughly cleaned in accordance with procedures in the sections that describe line installation.
2.1 MATERIALS

3.1 GENERAL
A. Testing: Conduct the performance and acceptance tests of the piping systems. Furnish necessary equipment, labor, and materials to conduct the testing. Testing shall be conducted in the presence of the Contracting Officer’s Representative.
B. Notification: Notify the Contracting Officer at least 48 hours prior to testing.
C. Procedure: Prior to testing, remove equipment which would be damaged by the test pressure from the system in which it is installed. Replace removed equipment after testing. Systems may be tested in sections as work progresses; however, previously tested portions shall become a part of the later test of the composite system. Repair leaks. Test time will be accrued only while full test pressure is exerted or subjected on the system.
3.2 NATURAL-GAS LINES
A. Filling Natural-Gas Lines: After natural-gas piping has been installed and before fixtures, appliances or shutoff valves have been attached thereto, test using air pressure only.

B. Test Pressure: For other than welded piping and for pipe carrying gas at pressures less than 14 inches of water column pressure (1/2 pounds per square inch), the air test shall be made by pressurizing the system to a uniform gauge pressure of 10 pounds per square inch. Test pressures shall be maintained for 15 minutes, with no perceptible drop in pressure. For welded pipe and for pipe carrying gas at pressures in excess of 14 inches of water column pressure, the test pressure shall be greater than 60 pounds per square inch, and such pressure shall be maintained for 30 minutes, with no perceptible drop in pressure.
C. Leakage: Leaks shall be detected by applying soapy water to the exterior of the piping. Fire or acid shall not be used to locate or repair leaks, nor shall a substance other than air be introduced into the gas piping. Defects in gas piping or fittings shall be repaired. The defective pipe or fitting shall be removed and replaced with sound material.

BITUMINOUS SEAL COAT
A. The work of this section consists of an application of prime coat and two (2) bituminous seal coats material to a prepared surface.
1 .2 SUBMITTALS
A. As specified in Section 01009.
B. Certifications:
1. Bituminous Material: Two copies of manufacturer's certification for each load certifying the material is of the type, grade, and quality specified.
2. Cover Aggregates: If material is obtained from a commercial supplier, submit certified current test data for soundness and gradation.
1 .3 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Apply bituminous material only during daylight hours, when surface is dry, the surface tempera-ture is 50 degrees and rising, and weather is not foggy or rainy.
2.1 MATERIAL

3 .1 GENERAL

B. Do not clean or discharge distributor within the project boundary. Dispose of excess product as required by federal regulations (40 CFR 261).
3 .2 EQUIPMENT
A. The following equipment or its equivalent shall be required.
1. Seal coat shall be applied with a hand or motorized squeegee or spray.
3 .3 SURFACE PREPARATION
A. Immediately before application of seal coat, surface area must be free of dust, dirt, and debris. All oil spots and other infirm areas must be treated or removed prior to application.
3 .4 APPLICATION
A. Prime Coat Application: The prime coat shall be uniformly applied at a rate of 0.05 to 0.10 gal-lons per square yard. Excess prime coat shall be squeegeed from the surface. Skipped areas or de-ficiencies shall be corrected.
B. Bituminous Seal Coat: The first application of seal coat shall be applied at a rate of 0.2 gallons per square yard. The second application of seal coat shall be applied at a rate of 0.15 gallons per square yard. The second seal coat application shall not be applied until the first application has completely dried.
1. The distributor shall be moving forward at proper application speed at the time the spray bar is opened. Correct any skipped areas or deficiencies.
2. When operating under part-width construction, leave a strip of bituminous material, ap-proximately 6 inches wide, uncovered to permit a slight overlap of the bituminous material.
3.5 MAINTENANCE
A. The pavement surface and all work areas shall be left in a clean condition. Vehicular traffic shall not be permitted on the pavement in the areas of the seal coat during the curing period. The con-tractor shall supply all temporary traffic control devices (barricades, cones, signing, etc.) to protect the sealant, as required and approved by the Engineer. Any damage to uncured sealant shall be repaired at the contractor’s expense.

2.1 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS
A. Comply with requirements of UDOT for asphalt paving work within the highway right of way.
2.2 MATERIALS
A. Hot-Mix Asphalt: Dense-graded, hot-laid, hot-mix asphalt plant mixes approved by authorities having jurisdiction.
B. Tack Coat: ASTM D 977 or AASHTO M 140 emulsified asphalt, or ASTM D 2397 or AASHTO M 208 cationic emulsified asphalt, slow setting, diluted in water, of suitable grade and consistency for application.
C. Pavement-Marking Paint: MPI #32 alkyd traffic-marking paint.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PAVING
A. Tack coat existing asphalt or concrete surfaces and allow tack coat to cure undisturbed.
B. Place hot-mix asphalt to required grade, cross section, and thickness. Promptly correct surface irregularities in paving course.

1. Spread mix at minimum temperature of 250 deg F.
C. Begin compaction as soon as placed hot-mix paving will bear roller weight without excessive displacement. Compact hot-mix paving with hot, hand tampers or vibratory-plate compactors in areas inaccessible to rollers. Complete compaction before mix temperature cools to 185 deg F.
D. Complete breakdown or initial rolling immediately after rolling joints and outside edge.
Examine surface immediately after breakdown rolling for indicated crown, grade, and smoothness.
E. Begin intermediate rolling immediately after breakdown rolling while hot-mix asphalt is still hot enough to achieve specified density. Continue rolling until hot-mix asphalt course has been uniformly compacted to 92 percent of reference maximum theoretical density according to
ASTM D 2041.
F. Finish-roll paved surfaces to remove roller marks while hot-mix asphalt is still warm.
G. While surface is being compacted and finished, trim edges of pavement to proper alignment.
Bevel edges while asphalt is still hot; compact thoroughly.
H. Remove and restore paved areas that are defective or contaminated.
I. Allow paving to age for 30 days before starting pavement marking.
J. Apply pavement-marking paint with mechanical equipment to a minimum wet film thickness of 15 mils.

PART 1 - GENERAL
1.1 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes the following:
1. This item shall consist of routing, heat lancing, and sealing the existing transverse and longitudinal cracks and joints and random cracks in bituminous pavements in accordance with these specifications.
2. The quantity shown in section 01009 is approximates only and should be verified by contractor prior to bidding. Actual payment for the work will be lump sum as described under section 01009.
1.2 SUBMITTALS
A. Product Data: For each type of product indicated.
B. Product test reports.
C. Compatibility and Adhesion Test Reports: From sealant manufacturer.
1.3 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Prior to the use of the sealant material, the contractor shall submit to the Contracting Officer, the appropriate material certification or laboratory test indicating that the material meets specification requirements. If the contractor applies the material prior to receipt of the test reports, payment for the material shall be withheld until they are received. If the material does not pass the specification it shall be replaced at the contractor’s expense.
1.4 SITE CONDITIONS
A. Requirements: Apply bituminous material only during daylight hours, when the surface tem-perature is 80 degrees or above and dry, and the weather is not foggy or rainy.

2. Storage, heating instructions, and cautions shall be printed on each box of sealant. The sealant must be able to be reheated to application temperature at least once after the initial heat up without degradation of sealant specifications. Sealant shall have an application life at application temperature of approximately 12 to 15 hours.

1. Sealant material shall be a hot pour Elastoflex 650 or approved equal. Sealant must conform to ASTM D 5078 requirements, together with the following requirements:

2.2 EQUIPMENT
A. Hot Compressed-Air Lance (HCA): The HCA shall be capable of producing air temperature up to 2500oF and constructed of suitable hardware. It shall be provided with separate valves to control propane, burner air, and lance air. The fuel and burner air shall be mixed only at the point of combustion before leaving the burner tube. A separate air lance tube shall pass inside the burner chamber and be orificed to a maximum 1/4”. At the fuel source, a high-pressure regulator to control fuel pressure from 5 PSI to 30 PSI and to prevent flashback shall be used. Burner BTU should range from 20,000 to 500,000 BTU. A wheel kit constructed to keep the unit at the proper height and angle from the pavement should be used. No external flame shall be allowed to touch the pavement.
B. Hot-Applied Sealant Applicator (melter): The melter applicator unit shall be a self-contained double boiler device with the transmittal of heat through a heat transfer oil. It must be equipped
02764-3 with an onboard automatic heat-controlling device to permit the attainment of a predetermined temperature, then maintain that temperature as long as required. The unit shall have a means to vigorously and continuously agitate the sealant. The sealant shall be transferred from the unit to the crack by means of a direct-connected feed hose and wand. The equipment should be designed to allow the sealant to be circulated back into the unit when sealing is not being performed or equipped with a temperature controlled heated hose and wand that does not required circulation.
The sealant should not be heated to a temperature in excess of that specified by the manufacturer.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.1 PREPERATION
A. All open cracks and joints greater than 1/4” shall be routed to remove at least 1/8” from each sidewall. This will result in a minimum reservoir width of 1/2” to a maximum reservoir width of 1-1/2”. The depth of the routing shall be approximately a one to one ratio (width to depth).
B. All open cracks and joints from 1/4” to 1” shall be routed to remove at least 1/8” from each sidewall. This will result in a minimum reservoir width of 1/2” to a maximum reservoir width of 1-1/4”. The depth of the routing shall be approximately a one to one ratio (width to depth), subject to the discretion of the Engineer. Cracks wider than 1” shall be sealed with sealant described in Part 2. B.
C. No sealant shall be installed until all cracks and joints have be cleaned free of all deleterious materials, including any dust, old sealant, incompressibles, and organic material, and are sufficiently dry. Following the initial routing and cleaning operation, all cracks and joints shall be HCA lanced within 10 minutes of application of the sealant. Equipment for the two operations should be kept in a compact configuration such that not more than 50 feet separates equipment required by the two operations. Extreme care shall be used to ensure the crack sidewalls do not become overheated and burned.
D. When vegetation exists in the cracks and joints, it shall be removed and those cracks and joints shall be treated with an herbicide that sterilizes the soil.
3.2 APPLICATION
A. No sealant material shall be installed until all cracks and joints to be sealed have been inspected and approved by the COR. The sealant shall be applied in the crack or joint reservoir uniformly from the bottom to the top and shall be filled without formation of entrapped air or voids. Pouring pots or gravity-fed sealant applicators shall not be used for sealing cracks and joints. Joints and cracks shall be filled flush with the surface and any overfill shall be squeegeed so that the overband cap does not exceed 1/16” above the surface and the width does not exceed 2” beyond the crack edges. All overbanding shall be kept to a minimum. After the sealant has cooled, settling shall not exceed 3/8” below the surface.

3.3 MAINTENANCE
A. The pavement surface and all work areas shall be left in a clean condition. A. The work of this section consists of furnishing and placing cast-in-place concrete.
1 .2 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Work and submittals shall conform to all requirements of ACI 301-96, except as modified by the requirements of these Contract Documents. Substitute the term "Contracting Officer" for the terms "Owner," "Architect/Engineer," and "Engineer/Architect" wherever used in ACI 301-96.
B. In addition to field reference required by ACI 301-96, provide a copy of ASTM C33-93. All references shall be available at the jobsite for use by the Contacting Officer before beginning concrete work.
C. The Contractor shall be responsible for all concrete testing, including testing identified as being the responsibility of the "Owner" in ACI 301-96. Testing services specified in Article 1.6.4.2 are required.
1 .3 SUBMITTALS
A. As specified in Section 01330.
B. Placing Drawings: Details not shown shall conform to CRSI Manual of Standard Practice, 25th Edition. Marked copies of the contract drawings will not be accepted as placing drawings.
C. Foundation Design: Provide foundation design based on reaction forces, including uplift, generated from building design. Show footing size, reinforcement location and size. Foundation design shall be stamped by a Licensed Engineer.
1.4 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Causes for Rejection: Concrete may be rejected for, but not limited to, the following reasons:
1. Inadequate strength after 28 calendar days as indicated by test cylinders. The Contractor shall be responsible for further testing required by the Government to determine the strength of the concrete.
2. Freezing within first 7 calendar days of placement.
3. Segregation of aggregate or over-vibration resulting in excessive water in the surface of the concrete or lack of water in vertical surfaces.
4. Honeycomb over 15% of the surface.
5. Voids larger than 2 inches across.
6. Exposed reinforcing steel.
7. Misalignment of concrete.
8. Substandard aggregate in the mix.
9. Failure to cover or seal concrete during initial 7-day curing period.
10. Improper placement of cut-offs, blockouts, anchor bolts, or other imbedded items.

11. Irregular, cracked, crazed, or spalled concrete surfaces.

PART 2 PRODUCTS
2 .1 FORMWORK AND FORM ACCESSORIES
A. Form Facing Materials: Unless otherwise specified, forms in contact with concrete shall produce a smooth form finish.
2 .2 REINFORCEMENT
A. Reinforcing Bars: ASTM A615-94, Grade 60, unless otherwise shown.
B. Welded Wire Fabric: Shall not be used.
2 .3 CONCRETE
A. Cementitious Material Content: Cementitious material may be a blend of portland cement and fly ash. Minimum cementitious material content, 564 pounds per cubic yard.
1. Portland Cement: ASTM C150-94b, Type IIA.
2. Fly Ash: ASTM C618-95, Class F. Fly ash not to exceed 15 percent of total cementitious material content by weight.
B. Maximum Sizes of Coarse Aggregates: ¾ inch.
C. Quality of Concrete: Furnish concrete under Option C, ASTM C94-94, whereby the manufacturer assumes full responsibility for the selection of the proportions for the concrete mixture with the minimum allowable cement content specified.
D. Maximum Water - Cementitious Material Ratio: 0.50.
E. Strength: 28-day compressive strength shall be 4,000 psi.
F. Chloride Ion Content: Chlorides are not permitted.
2 .4 EXPANSION JOINT FILLER
A. Preformed bituminous type, ASTM D1751-83.
B. Preformed sponge rubber, ASTM D1752-84, Type I. Store sponge rubber filler at 80 degrees F or less. Do not store in the open, or in the direct rays of the sun.
2 .5 BACKER ROD
A. Round, flexible, extruded, closed cell polyethylene foam; ASTM D5249-95, Type 1.
2 .6 SEALANT
A. As specified in Section 07900.

2 .7 DOWEL CAPS
A. Plastic or steel. Caps shall correspond in size to the diameter of the associated steel reinforcement.
2 .8 CURING MATERIALS
A. Burlap: New and free of any contaminants.
B. Sheet Materials: As specified in ACI 301-96.
C. Spray Applied Membrane Forming Liquids: ASTM C309-94, Type 2, Class A, at an application rate of 200 square feet per gallon.
3 .1 JOINTS AND EMBEDDED ITEMS
A. Construction Joints:
1. Obtain approval for joints not shown.
2. Continue all reinforcement across joints.
3. Obtain bond at construction joints.
B. Reinforcement: Welding and field bending of reinforcement will not be permitted.
C. Other Embedded Items: Give all trades whose work is related to the concrete opportunity to install embedded items before concrete is placed.
3 .2 PLACING OF CONCRETE
A. Notify Contracting Officer’s Representative at least 24 hours in advance of any concrete placement. Do not place concrete until Contracting Officer’s Representative has accepted preplacement activities.
B. Keep a spare vibrator, of the appropriate size, on the job site during all concrete placing operations.
C. Aggregate Base: Shall be placed under the slab, as shown on the drawings, prior to erecting formwork. Base material excavated for concrete may be reused for aggregate base material.
Provide a minimum of 3” under concrete slabs. Compact to 95% of standard proctor.
D. Form Construction: Construct forms according to ACI 347, Chapters 1 through 4, to the exact sizes, shapes, lines, and dimensions shown, and as required to obtain accurate alignment, location grades, and level, and plumb work in finished structures. Provide required detail work, construction aids, and embedded items. Use selected materials to obtain required finishes.
Fabricate forms for removal without hammering or prying against concrete surfaces. Provide
03300-4 crush plates or wrecking plates if stripping may damage cast concrete surfaces. Form oil may be applied to facilitate removal of the forms.
E. Form Inspection: The Contractor shall notify the Contracting Officer’s Representative 24 hr in advance of concrete placement to allow for inspection of the forming and placement of items to be placed in the concrete. Excess water shall be removed from the forms before concrete placement.
F. Bonding to Existing Material: Surfaces required to be bonded to the concrete shall be prepared for bonding adhesive according to the manufacturer's instructions.
G. Construction Joints: Shall be made with beveled keyways at locations as approved by the Contracting Officer or as indicated on the drawings.
