Specifications
Specifications Document: Alfalfa Hay (1000 Tons)
1.0 Background and Purpose:
Scientists at the Roman L. Hurska U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) are developing scientific information and new technologies to solve high priority problems for the U.S. beef, swine, and sheep industries. As part of the effort, they require alfalfa hay to be fed to the cow herds. This hay will be a high value product to our facility.
CONTRACTOR REQUIREMENTS
2.0 Technical Requirements/Tasks:

1000 Tons of Alfalfa Hay
• Product Specifications:
Large Round or Square bales of Grinding Quality Alfalfa with a minimum of 16% crude protein and a Total Digestible Nutrients (%TDN) between 55-60% or better on a as received basis. Alfalfa hay should be of the 2024 crop year, should not be moldy or foul smelling, and must weigh at least 1000 pounds per bale. If a Load is received and is questionable in meeting the Specifications the load will be set aside and tested before the alfalfa is accepted. Alfalfa hay that does not meet the above specifications will be rejected. Alfalfa hay must be delivered to USDA/ARS/USMARC; Clay Center, NE and USMARC personnel will unload the hay bales. Truck drivers will need to coordinate with USMARC personnel on delivery times and schedules but normal hours of 7:00am - 3:30pm Monday-Friday are anticipated. A scale ticket showing gross, tare, and net weight is required on every load delivered. A State of Nebraska certified scale is located on USMARC facilities and can be used for obtaining weights. Delivery is anticipated to start upon contract award and must be completed in full by 04/01/2025.
