About this file

This document specifies the minimum salient characteristics for an Ion Trap Mobility Spectrometer (ITMS) detector system designed for trace threat detection applications. The system must be capable of detecting explosives, narcotics, or simultaneous explosives/narcotics configurations using surface wipe particulate sample acquisition with a nominal analysis time of 8 seconds.

The equipment must feature a nonradioactive ionization source to eliminate annual wipe testing and regulatory licensing requirements associated with radioactive sources. Key technical specifications include automated internal calibration, advanced software algorithms with optimized detection libraries, recognition of multiple peaks with multiple display options (bar graph or time-of-flight plasmagram), and an on-board computer that automatically logs time, date, sample analysis, and system status with data recall and printing capabilities. The system shall operate on a Linux or equivalent embedded operating environment with a 10.4-inch TFT-LCD monitor with resistive touch screen, 256 GB solid-state storage, and connectivity via two USB 2.0 ports and one Ethernet port. Power requirements include an external AC-to-DC supply (100–240 VAC input, 15 VDC/10 A/150W output) with battery backup of up to 60 minutes. The portable desktop design must operate within ambient temperatures of 14 to 131°F (-10 to 55°C), include an ergonomic sample wand and desorber design, support remote monitoring capability, feature a regenerative dryer to reduce consumable replacement, and maintain approximate physical dimensions of 480 mm width by 500 mm height/depth with 380 mm open or 180 mm closed configuration.
