About this file

This document outlines the salient characteristics and command requirements for the procurement of 4x HP LaserJet M776dn desktop multifunction printers. The device specifications include print, copy, scan, and fax functions with a 1.2 GHz processor, 2.0 GB memory, and support for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS operating systems. The printer delivers print speeds up to 45 pages per minute for both black and color documents, automatic duplex printing with 1200x1200 dpi resolution, scan speeds up to 120 ipm in duplex mode, copy speeds up to 45 copies per minute, and fax capability at 33.6 kbps. The device supports multiple media sizes including A3, A4, A5, A6, B4, B5, and 11x17" documents, with an automatic document feeder capacity of 100 sheets and paper handling capabilities including a 100-sheet multipurpose tray and 550-sheet input tray. Connectivity features include 1 Gigabit Ethernet, two SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports, and Hardware Integration Pocket 2nd generation interface.

The procurement is specifically intended to support project operations at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS) and Dam Neck Facility (DMF) San Diego, with particular emphasis on deployment in environments with limited accessibility such as second-level trailers and temporary service trailers aboard aircraft carriers. The HP M776dn is identified as CMDNet/NMCI approved and meets established criteria for performance, compatibility, and cyber-security features. The device fulfills the requirement for printing 11x17" large-format documents required by project engineers for training materials, procedural documentation, and presentations. The justification for the specific selection includes seamless integration with the existing HP desktop printer infrastructure across PSNS and detachments, compatibility with HP Web Jetadmin centralized device management platform, and alignment with current IT staff training and experience, thereby eliminating additional training requirements, compatibility issues, and the need for multiple maintenance contracts associated with alternative solutions.

Command Requirements

The purchase of 4x HP LaserJet M776dn desktop printers is for supporting project operations, particularly in environments with limited accessibility, such as second-level trailers lacking first-floor access or elevator services, and temporary service trailers, including those deployed onboard CVNs. This device fills a specific need for deployment into these challenging locations, aligning with and supporting the print team's SOP. The HP device falls into our CMDNet/NMCI approved device list, while meeting our criteria. We have already evaluated its performance, compatibility, and cyber-security features within our existing infrastructure, with specific attention to its suitability for deployment in these demanding environments. Additionally, Project engineers who will be using these devices require access to a printer capable of handling 11x17" documents during Project Avails.

Engineers utilize large-format documents for training materials, procedural documentation, and presentations. Non-Purchase of this device would require the use of smaller form printers, that would hinder effective knowledge transfer, large document printing and increase preparation time. The HP 776dn has scan capability and the ability to print 11x17 which meets requirements on every PIA here in PSNS and DMF San Diego.

We already have a well-established environment of HP desktop printers across PSNS and our detachments. This existing infrastructure provides significant advantages in terms of:

• Interoperability: Integrating a new printer into our existing network will ensure seamless compatibility and reduce the risk of technical issues.

• Training and Support: Our IT staff and end-users are already trained and experienced in operating and maintaining HP devices, minimizing the learning curve, and maximizing efficiency.

Furthermore, we have made significant investments in the HP ecosystem, specifically:

• HP Web Jetadmin: A tool we utilize for centralized device management, including user authentication, print tracking, and security settings. This subscription provides us with a streamlined and secure print environment. Integrating a new HP device into HP Web Jetadmin is a straightforward process and will maintain the integrity of our existing system.

Purchasing any non-HP desktop device would necessitate additional training, create compatibility issues with our existing infrastructure, and require us to manage multiple maintenance contracts and device management platforms. This would result in increased costs, reduced efficiency, and potential security vulnerabilities.
