About this file

This document is a detailed EPA-approved product label for Chipco Choice Insecticide, manufactured by Bayer Environmental Science and registered with EPA Registration Number 432-896. The label provides comprehensive instructions for using the pesticide, specifically for controlling mole crickets and imported fire ants in turfgrass and landscape areas. The product contains 0.1% fipronil as the active ingredient and is classified as a restricted use pesticide due to its toxicity to aquatic invertebrates, meaning it can only be applied by certified applicators. The label outlines specific application methods including slit-placement treatment for mole cricket control and broadcast treatment for imported fire ant control, with detailed geographical restrictions, including limitations in California's Coachella Valley and specific USDA APHIS Imported Fire Ant Quarantine areas across multiple states.

The label provides extensive safety and environmental guidance, highlighting potential hazards to birds, fish, and aquatic invertebrates. Application rates are precisely defined, with restrictions on the number of applications per year and specific buffer zones required near water bodies. Personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements are detailed, mandating long-sleeved shirts, long pants, waterproof gloves, and shoes with socks for applicators. The product offers control of various pests for different durations: imported fire ants for up to one year, mole crickets for four months, nuisance ants for three months, and fleas and ticks for one month. The label also includes comprehensive first aid instructions, storage and disposal guidelines, and legal disclaimers from Bayer CropScience LP regarding product use and potential risks.
