About this file

This document is the specification for an Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) Spectrometer required by the Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC) at Arnold Air Force Base, Tennessee. The key requirements include:

The EDXRF Spectrometer must be new, not refurbished or remanufactured, and have the ability to detect elements from Sodium to Uranium, including the ability to determine the composition of samples and isolate the sample from the detector. Specific features required include a 50 kV 4W X-ray tube, 6-position X-ray filter wheel, Silicon Drift Detector, Peltier electronic cooling, digital signal processor, standard and non-standard quantification, large sample chamber, sample rings, and helium purge option. The instrument will serve as a backup for the sulfur analyzer, which is a critical component of fuel analysis, and can also be used to quickly identify composition of contaminants and debris. Required accessories include software, sample tray, helium regulator, external PC, UPS, calibration standards, and installation, calibration, training and warranty services.

This requirement is part of a Sources Sought notice issued by the Department of the Air Force Materiel Command Test Center to determine availability and technical capabilities of small and large businesses to provide this EDXRF Spectrometer as well as additional laboratory instrumentation including a Density Meter, Automated Particle Analyzer Laser, and Mobile Magnetizing Station. Based on responses, the procurement may be a single source acquisition, set aside for small businesses, or full and open competition.

Specification for Energy Dispersive XRF (EDXRF) Spectrometer at Arnold Air Force Base, TN

Arnold Engineering Development Complex (AEDC)

Provide all materials, labor, and equipment necessary to provide a new fully functional Energy Dispersive XRF (EDXRF) Spectrometer. Refurbished or remanufactured parts are not authorized for this requirement.

This specification is for the procurement of an EDX RF Analyzer which will be a back‐up instrument for the sulfur analyzer, which is a critical component of fuel analysis. This instrument can also be used with the ability to determine composition of samples and will be particularly useful for decreasing the time for identifying composition of contaminants and debris versus using the EDAX. Another benefit of not using the EDAX for some of these samples is the protection from small particles/dirt, reducing the risk of damage to the instrument and maintenance. This instrument requires the ability to detect elements from Sodium to Uranium and to isolate the sample from the detector.
