The Sawmill and Bear Campground Renovations project will address deteriorating and/or dysfunctional infrastructure and amenities of campgrounds along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT). Work that is further detailed in this document’s attachments include improving campground amenities (tables, fire rings, food lockers, information boards, signs) and performing road work inside the campgrounds to manage traffic patterns and drainage more effectively through installation of barriers, gates, culverts, ditches, drains, and dissipators. The road will be reconditioned and resurfaced with crushed aggregate and requires transportation of aggregate base from suitable quarry near the project.
2.0 Background
Sawmill Campground is a high use site along the PCT used by hikers and hunters when in season. It currently has 7 campsites with tables and fire rings, a restroom, two trash cans, damaged signs, user created roads, and heavy rutting.
Bear Campground is a medium use site along the PCT used by hikers and hunters when in season.
