About this file

This is a specification document for the State of New Hampshire detailing requirements for a hydraulic spreader unit to be mounted on dump trucks for ice control and road oil covering applications. The spreader shall be constructed entirely of 304 stainless steel with a minimum capacity of 11 cubic yards and shall utilize the truck's existing PTO-driven hydraulic system for operation. The unit must fit within standard dump body dimensions of 162 inches long by 84 inches wide by 42 inches deep with a loaded floor height of 56 inches and must be capable of mounting within 4 inches of the front of the dump body. The specification includes detailed requirements for the hopper body, conveyor system with open pintle chain rated at minimum 30,900 lbs per side ultimate strength, a worm gear speed reducer with 25:1 reduction ratio, and a stainless steel spinner disc distributor with adjustable height between 15 and 21 inches above ground. Hydraulic components include rigid stainless steel piping with specific placement requirements on the driver's side of the hopper, Aeroquip hose connections, and dual Char-Lynn hydraulic motors for conveyor and spinner operation.

The specification prescribes detailed construction standards including 10-gauge stainless steel for body sides, ends, and sills with a minimum of six gussets per side, a discharge gate with calibrated adjustment capability, eight sectional stainless steel screens with 2.5-inch square openings, and a replaceable 3/16-inch stainless steel wear plate for conveyor operation. All sharp edges must be ground smooth and corners rounded for safety. The specification references quality spreader manufacturers including Bonnell, Warren, Frink, Henderson, Hi-Way, Swenson Tarco, and Tarrant as examples of acceptable quality standards. Bidders must submit detailed descriptions and drawings for departmental review and approval prior to construction. The vendor shall provide a 10-foot stainless steel ladder with nine rungs, complete instruction and parts manuals, and two sets of Material Safety Data Sheets for all construction materials.
