DESCRIPTION OF WORK

Culvert Replacement on Road 508A

Bienville National Forest

This project will replace a failed 24”x26’ corrugated metal pipe culvert with a 24” x 30’ 16 gage polymer coated corrugated metal pipe culvert at mile post 1.9 traveling west to east on Road 508A, and it will also replace a failed 30”x30’ corrugated metal pipe culvert with two 30”x30’ 16 gage polymer coated corrugated metal pipe culverts at mile post 2.9 on said Road 508A on the Bienville National Forest in Scott County, Mississippi. The project location is approximately 0.25 miles and 1.25 west of Clifton Road on FSR 508A. The intersection of Clifton Road and Road 508A is 1.5 miles north of the Clifton Road and Hillsboro Road intersection. Coordinates for the culvert at mile post 2.9 (32.418345, -89.564236). Road 508A is an aggregate surfaced road at the culvert sites.

Remove the existing culverts and properly dispose of it off national forest property. Install a 24” x 30’ culvert at the same alignment as the existing culvert and install two 30”x30’ culverts at the same alignment as the existing culvert. Any excavated material not suited for backfill is to be properly disposed of off national forest property. Fill in the washout and supplement the excavated material with select borrow as necessary and backfill the culvert to within 8” of the existing roadway grade. The cross section over the pipe is to match that of the adjacent roadway.

Place an 8” compacted layer of #610 (crusher run) crushed limestone aggregate over the excavated area of the roadbed. Grade the edges to pull all aggregate back into the travel way and leave a straight, uniform edge, and grade the aggregate to create a smooth, uniform surface and compact.

Applicable specifications may be found in FHWA’s FP-14 and the attached supplemental specifications.
