Road 374A Washout Fairley Bridge Landing Recreational Area

This project will repair a washout and stabilize the road bank along FSR 374A in the Fairley Bridge Landing Recreational Area on the De Soto National Forest near Brooklyn in Forrest County, MS where major flows and meandering of Bug Branch has caused sloughing of the road bank. Borrow excavation will be hauled in to restore the road bank and the affected washout area will be protected with geotextile, 100 lb gradation rock riprap, concrete grout and grout cutoff and a peak stone dike. The project location is 12.6 miles East Northeast of Wiggins off of Fairley Bridge Road. Road 374A is an aggregate surfaced road. Coordinates of approximate site location are 30.919150, -88.967377 in decimal degrees. The recreational area is locked with a Forest Service lock. Forest Service personnel will be needed prior to accessing the site.

Quantities of rock riprap, geotextile, concrete grout and borrow excavation are estimated for an approximate affected washout area of 40’x32’. Remove vegetation, debris and existing loose rock and reshape bank along the washout vicinity. Restore 2’ of shoulder with borrow excavation and fill in the eroded volume so as to place rock riprap to 1.5’ thickness and uniform slope to the natural grade. Place geotextile with 6” overlap before placing the 100 lb rock. See detail sheet for placement of rock, grout and grout cutoff.

A quantity of #610 (crusher run) crushed limestone aggregate is included to build back the roadbed for project installation and spot surfacing of FSR 374A as needed. Grade the edges to pull all aggregate back into the travel way and leave a straight, uniform edge, and grade the aggregate to create a smooth, uniform surface and compact.

Estimated quantities Borrow Excavation 50 CY Roadway Aggregate, Grade 610 45 Tons Rock Riprap 200 Tons Geotextile 200 SY Concrete Grout 22.6 CY
