DEVIATIONS TO MIL-F-44422 2 Apr 2020

SECTION 2. Delete reference to UU-T-81, PPP-8-601, FED-STD-191, MIL-STD-105, MIL-STD-129, MIL-STD-147, MIL-STD-731.

SECTION 3.

PAGE 5, 3.5.2, line 2: Delete “five” and substitute “six”.

PAGE 6, 3.6.1, line 3: Delete “4.4.6” and substitute “4.4.5”.

Subsection 3.7 "Identification"

Paragraph 3.7, delete and substitute

"3.7 Identification. Each rope shall have an identification tag affixed to the assembly.

The size of the tag shall be approximately 4 by 3 inches. The tag shall be constructed of 22 oz PVC reinforcement with a polyester fiber with an acrylic coating or equivalent.

A commercial source of supply for the tags are: MSM Tags (www.msmtags.com). The color of the tag shall be black with gray¼ inch high markings. A ¼ inch hole shall be placed on the tag approximately where shown. The tie wrap used to attach the tag to the rope assembly shall be a commercial 3/16-inch wide nylon tie wrap finishing to a length of 7-8 inches. The ink used for the markings shall be water insoluble. The markings shall be as specified (See figure 1). Tags shall not bleed when immersed for 5 minutes in distilled water at 23° C ± 2° C, nor fade when dried after immersion.

SECTION 4.

a) Delete all references to MIL-STD-105, AQL levels and inspection levels.

b) Delete paragraphs 4.4.6 and 4.4.7.

c) Quality Assurance Provisions shall be specified in another section of the contract as applicable.

d) "Table 111. Component Test", add the following under "Characteristics" "Heat aging", add the following under "Requirement paragraph" "Table I and 4.5.1", and add the following under ''Test method" "6015 and para 4.5.1".

e) Add paragraph "4.5 Methods of inspection."

f) Add paragraph "4.5.1 Breaking strength after heat aging. Two breaking strength specimens, prepared as specified in Method 6015 of FED-STD- 191, shall be heated for 5 days in a convection air oven at 175° +/- 2°F.

The heat aging test shall be performed on sample ropes when possible. An alternate method using plied yarns constituting the strands may be substituted. After aging, the specimens shall be allowed to reach equilibrium under standard conditions before being tested for strength.

Breaking strength shall be determined in accordance with Method 6015 of FED-STD-191. The percent change in strength loss shall be calculated based on the sample strength initially and after heat aging and shall not exceed the requirements per Table I."

SECTION 5.

Delete all requirements to packaging. Packaging requirements shall be provided in another section of the contract if applicable.
