About this file

This document is an Archaeological Inadvertent Discovery Plan (IDP) for the Wasson Creek Watershed Restoration Project, led by Alice Yeates with a State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) case number of 22-0221. The plan provides comprehensive guidelines for contractors and workers on how to proceed if archaeological artifacts or human remains are discovered during ground-disturbing activities. It outlines specific procedures for stopping work, securing the discovery area with a 30-meter/100-foot buffer, notifying key personnel including the Project Lead, Project Manager, Agency Official, Oregon State Police, SHPO, and appropriate Native American Tribes, and protecting the site from damage or exposure.

The document includes detailed contact information for all relevant parties, including tribal representatives from the Coquille Indian Tribe, Confederated Tribes of Coos, Lower Umpqua and Siletz Indians (CTCLUSI), and Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians. The plan emphasizes strict confidentiality protocols in accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act and Oregon State law, mandating that no information about discoveries should be shared with media or the public without concurrence from responsible agencies and tribes. An appendix provides visual reference guides for identifying potential archaeological finds, including stone tools, historic glass and metal artifacts, shell middens, and historic building foundations.
