SECTION C

SUMMARY OF WORK

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1 SUMMARY

Work for this project consists of constructing a roadway embankment with turnouts and lead-off ditches; installing specified multi-axial geogrid geosynthetic on approved constructed roadway; furnishing, placing and compacting the aggregate material base course on the geogrid;

seeding and installing specified erosion control material; and a final shaping of the roadway as specified. Work will be performed on a designated 1.7 miles of Whitetail Road #224 per Base Item, with Optional Item of additional aggregate placement on Whitetail Road #224. Roadway will be constructed to a fourteen (14) foot wide roadway surface as Shown on the Drawings.

Blade the placed aggregate to provide a smooth-running surface with a centerline crown.

Reference (FP-24) Standard Specifications for Construction of Roads and Bridges as shown in the Specifications and Drawings.

Work to be completed shall be as shown in the Schedule of Items and described as follows:

Base Item:

-Clearing and grubbing within the limits of the work that interfere with construction equipment during road work. Minimal grubbing is anticipated and will be approved by the Government.

-Lump sum quantity payment.

-Construct a designated 1.7 mile of roadway to provide for a fourteen (14) foot wide running surface. Construct up to six turnouts as located by the Government per the drawings and specifications. Compaction Method #3 for the native soil roadbed.

-Contract & Actual quantity payment.

-Excavation of up to 6 lead-off ditches, estimated at 100 LF each, as located by the Government.

-Actual quantity payment.

-Placement of approximately 10,484 square yards of ten (10) foot wide specified geogrid material centered over the width for the entire length of roadway, turnouts and Trail 112 intersection and Road #230 intersection as described in the specifications and shown in the drawings.

-Deliver and place specified aggregate to a twelve (12) foot wide running surface, 6-inch compacted depth with a 1-foot taper on each side of the roadway. Up to six turnouts located by the Government will also be 6-inch compacted depth aggregate base course, Trail 112 and Road #230 intersections will be 6-inch compacted depth for 50 feet off the edge of main roadway. This equates to approximately 2,420 cubic yards compacted in place for the base 1.7 miles. Compaction Method #3.

-Prepare seedbed of disturbed areas, approximately 8 acres, or as designated by the Government. Assure seed and mulch conforms to weed free requirements, manufacturer’s recommendations and requirements outlined in the Specifications.

Option Items: As funded.

Option Item A)

-Deliver and place up to 1655 cubic yards of specified aggregate as flagged by the Government to a twelve (12) foot wide running surface on Road #224, Compaction Method #3.

1.2 LOCATION

A. This project is located within the Bessey Ranger District with work commencing on FSR #224 (Whitetail Road) at MP 1.5 where the previous aggregate placement project ended. Project location is approximately 10 miles southwest of Bessey Ranger District Office. The Government shall locate and mark each designated section of work as described.

1.3 GENERAL SITE CONDITIONS AND WEATHER

A. The elevation of the site is approximately 2,700 feet above mean sea level. The construction site experiences snowfall and cold temperatures, with snow on the ground typically from mid-November through March.

1.4 USE OF PREMISES

A. General: Contractor shall have full use of premises for construction operations, including use of Project site, during construction period. Contractors’ use of premises is limited only by the Government's right to perform work or to retain other contractors on portions of Project.

B. Contractor shall always conduct his operations to ensure the least inconvenience to the public and employees. Closures will be permitted, when required, upon written approval by Contracting Officer (CO).

C. Contractor shall provide adequate signage and barricades according to MUTCD and take necessary safety measures to protect the public during all construction operations.

Contractor shall minimize disturbance of all undisturbed areas.

D. Existing Utilities: The Contractor is responsible for notifying all utility companies of proposed locations and times of excavation prior to starting work.

E. Contractor shall remove all equipment, trash, materials, and other items associated with the work within 7 calendar days of final acceptance of work prior to final payment being processed by the CO.

1.5 MEALS AND LODGING

A. Meals and lodging are commercially available in the Cities of Halsey and Thedford Nebraska within 15 to 25 miles of the construction site. Meals or lodging will not be available at Forest Service facilities.

1.6 CAMPING

A. With approval by the Bessey Ranger District, National Forest Service lands may be used by the Contractor to have one fully contained recreation vehicle which may remain at this site for security.

1.7 CONSTRUCTION SEQUENCE

A. Construction season shall end by October 31, 2026, or as weather conditions permit and allowed by the CO.

B. Depending on conditions, normal fire restrictions may apply to activities associated with this project.

1.8 FIELD VERIFICATION

A. Field verification of the roadway condition shall be the responsibility of the Contractor. Locations to turn-arounds for haul vehicles shall be approved by the CO prior to start of work.

1.9 PERMITS

A. Any permits for hauling as required by local, County, State, or Federal laws or regulations shall be obtained by the Contractor.
