About this file
This document is a set of Special Provisions and Specifications for the OR241: Chandler (Coos River) Bridge Operators House Project, issued by the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT). The project scope involves reconfiguring the northwest portion of the operator's house, removing the existing door and replacing it with a roll-up door, modifying the bridge rail to allow access to the roll-up door, installing an access door on the north side of the operator's house, and modifying the lighting and electrical installations impacted by the modifications. The project is located on OR241 at mile post 3.73 in Coos County, Oregon.
The specifications detail requirements for temporary work zone traffic control, work access and containment systems, and environmental protection measures, including the handling of lead, chromium, and cadmium-based paints. The contract does not indicate separate payment for much of the work, which is to be performed as incidental. There is no information provided on pricing terms, funding sources, or other contractual details.

Provide a warranty of the rollup door against defects in workmanship and materials for one year from date of shipment, excepting the design life usage cycles which remains in force after the one year warranty period. Factory finishes may be excluded from the warranty provided the finishes of the delivered and installed components are deemed acceptable by the Engineer.
Assemble rollup door curtain from interlocking flat slats, roll-formed from 20 gauge galvanized steel strip, Type F, nominally 2” by 9/16”.
Provide curtain with a T-shape bottom bar formed by two steel angles (2” x 2” x 1/8”) bolted together back-to-back with a mating top flange for interlocking with the bottom of the curtain, and with an extruded aluminum lower weatherstrip track. Provide a bulbous vinyl weatherstrip on the bottom of the bottom bar continuously retained by insertion into the track. Provide manual slide locks at both lower inside (coil side) corners of the bottom bar which engage slots or brackets to secure the door in a closed position from inside the operator house. Provide means to lock the slide locks in the engaged position with a common padlock.
Provide 11 gauge steel U-channel curtain guides sized to retain curtain and sized to support the door. Provide removable curtain stops. Attach guides to steel wall angles with 3/8” minimum bolts no more than 24” on center. Provide bolts that will not interfere with curtain movement. Provide bent plate or rolled steel wall angles to connect guides, barrel and hood to the structural steel support framing in the manufacturers Face-Mount E-Guide orientation. Connect steel wall angles to the structural tube steel support framing with 1/2" diameter blind bolts at no more than 24" on center, in field drilled holes, aligned to ensure correct operation of the door and as specified by the manufacturer.
Provide adjustable torsional spring(s) to counterbalance the curtain weight. Provide a 4 1/2” minimum diameter steel pipe barrel sized to contain the torsion spring(s) counterbalance assembly and fittings, and to support curtain with a maximum deflection of 0.03” per ft. of width.

Provide means of adjusting spring tension using an adjusting wheel outside of mounting brackets. To support the counterbalance assembly, provide 3/16” minimum thickness steel bracket plates bolted to the wall angles, all sized to support the curtain and barrel, and provided with 1/8” thick flanges for hood attachment.
Provide a hood enclosing the rolled up curtain and counterbalance assembly, formed from 24 gauge galvanized steel sheet with integrally formed press-braked or rolled top and bottom edge return reinforcements to reduce deflection. Form hood so that top edge reinforcement does not protrude above the top surface of the hood and the overall height to the top of the hood does not exceed 8'-0". Design and install the hood mount to be fastened to the wall angles or directly to the structural tube door opening frame. Do not connect the hood or any door components to the steel roof panels.
Provide a wind and weather baffle across the full door width attached to the inside top of the hood and resting against the coiled curtain to block wind from flowing into the operator house. Configure the baffle to resist, without damage, wind pressures resulting from wind speeds no less than those that generate the design wind loading.
