SPECIFICATIONS

Cedar Shakes for

Lassen Volcanic National Park

GENERAL:

The National Park Service (NPS) at Lassen Volcanic National Park (LAVO) has a requirement for hand split and resawn Western Red Cedar Shakes for the historic Summit Lake Ranger Station. See the attached photos.

SPECIFICATIONS:

Cedar shakes offered to the Government under this contract shall meet or exceed the following minimum specifications:

1) Shakes, Premium Grade, Western Red Cedar, 24-inch, hand split, resawn, Mediums (half-inch butts), Class B Fire Retardant Treated (80 bundles)

a) Shakes will be installed with a 10-inch exposure.

b) Premium Grade: 100% edge grain,100% Heartwood (1/8-inch sapwood permitted on one edge), 100% Clear. Exterior surface shall be hand split and the underside shall be rough sawn. Include a warranty of a minimum of 30 years on the hand split/resawn shakes.

c) Shakes and shingles shall be Class B ICC Fire Treatment applied (required by the State of California). Include a fire treatment warranty as part of your submittal.

d) Shakes and shingles shall be bundled and banded to protect them during shipment.

Include shipping costs to zip code 96063 in your quote.

e) Shakes shall match the profile dimensions and appearance of the shakes already on the structure. See photos showing an example of an existing shake’s face and back.

2) Starter Shingles, #2, Class B (2 Bundles)

3) Medium Hip & Ridge Class B 12/12 Pitch (3 bundles)

DELIVERY LOCATION:

F.O.B. Destination to the LAVO Park Headquarters at 38050 Highway 36 East, Mineral, Ca. 96063. The area is fully accessible to a tractor/trailer for the delivery. Delivery shall be made between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Provide 72-hour advance notice before delivery. The NPS will provide a forklift and operator.
