About this file
This document outlines specifications for replacing pumps and motors at four sewer lift stations located in the Marin Headlands area of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area in California. The specifications call for removing the existing pumps, motors, check valves, wiring and mounting hardware at each of the four lift station sites and replacing them with new equipment. The sites include the Rodeo Beach, Rodeo Lagoon, Horse Stables and YMCA Campus lift stations. The specifications provide detailed requirements for the new pumps, motors, ball check valves, pump mounts and wiring to be installed at each site. The work must be performed while maintaining uninterrupted sewage flow. The contractor must schedule work to replace one pump and motor set before moving to the next to avoid disrupting sewer service. The specifications include sections on related work, submittals, quality control, execution and a one year warranty on all workmanship.

A. General: All work outlined below will be performed under a single contract.
B. Project Location: This project is located at four main lift stations in the Marin Headlands of the Golden Gate Natural Recreation Area, California.
C. Project Background: The Marin Headlands, part of the Golden Gate Natural Recreation Area, are located on the north side of the Golden Gate Bridge. Park residential houses, Park and partner offices, and public beaches are in the Marin Headlands. Wastewater in the area is collected and pumped by several lift stations through the Baker-Berry Tunnel to be treated at the City of Sausalito wastewater treatment facility. Pumps and motors of four main lift stations were installed in the early 1990’s and are at the end of their service life.
D. Project Scope of Work: This project will replace the wastewater system lift station pumps and motors at four (4) main lift stations in the Marin Headlands. The existing pumps and motors will be removed and replaced with new pumps and motors capable of performing the same function. The associated power and alarm communication wiring will be replaced and the associated guiderails and mounting hardware for the pump and motor mounts will be replaced.
The existing swing check valves shall be replaced with new ball check valves. Each lift station has two (2) pump and motor assemblies located in a dry well. The dry wells are a permit-required confined space entry and must be addressed in the Safety Plan (See 3.1.A.5). The lift stations are listed below.
1. Rodeo Beach (Building 1043)
2. Rodeo Lagoon (Building 931)
3. Horse Stables (Building 841)
4. YMCA Campus (Building 990)
E. Measurement and Payment: Payment will be by lump sum for each location. No measurement will be made of quantities for payment. Payment shall include all labor, materials, and incidentals necessary to complete the work. Final payment will be made when all work is complete and in place, work site is clean, and all required submittals have been made.
