SECTION 01 11 00

SUMMARY OF WORK

A. The work of this contract consists of in general the construction of a test well. The work related to this test well will be comprised of drilling for and setting temporary conductor casing; drilling a borehole to an anticipated depth of approximately 550 feet below ground surface; installing 100 lineal feet of nominal 6-inch PVC well screen with 150 feet of gravel-pack; installing approximately 450 lineal feet of nominal 6-inch diameter PVC water well casing with 350 linear feet of formation stabilizer; installing 50 linear feet of surface seal material in the annular space around the permanent well casing; conducting a step- drawdown pumping test consisting of three steps (anticipated total duration 8 hours with the maximum pumping rate at 60 gpm); conducting recovery test; conducting a constant rate pumping test (anticipated total duration 72 hours with the pumping rate determined by previous step test results); conducting recovery test; disinfecting the completed test well, and securing the well head at the completion of the work.

B. The description of the work of this contract in 1.1.A above is a summary of the work and is not intended to provide a detailed and exhaustive description of all aspects of the entirety of the work.

For the complete and comprehensive description of the work all documents pertaining to the Contract Documents must be collectively taken into account.

C. All work will be performed under a single contract.

1.2 LOCATION

A. The test well will be constructed on NPS land at the site of the existing 50,000-gallon underground concrete storage reservoir in the Limantour-Laguna Water System along Limantour Road in Point Reyes National Seashore located in Marin County, California. Point Reyes National Seashore is located on the west side of California State Highway 1 and is approximately 30 miles northwest of San Francisco, California.

B. Access to the project site coming off of HWY 1 will be mostly on paved road surfaces on NPS land with a short section of gravel road at the well site. The access route begins at Bear Valley Road at its intersection with HWY 1 in Olema, California. It continues northwest along Bear Valley Road for approximately 1.8 miles to the intersection of Bear Valley Road and Limantour Road. The access route then follows Limantour Road about 7 miles to the site as follows: south for approximately 1 mile to a hairpin tum at the base of a climb. The access route then continues westward along Limantour Road as it ascends the ridge along the eastern boundary of the Park for approximately 3.5 miles and 700 feet of elevation gain. Once the access route reaches the crest of this ridge, it continues southwest for approximately 2.5 miles to the 50,000-gallon underground storage reservoir site while losing approximately 500 feet of elevation. At the site of the 50,000-gallon underground storage reservoir, a metal gate across a gravel two-track road on the southwest side of Limantour Road marks the continuation of the access route. The route follows this gravel road for approximately 500 feet to the well site. The specific location where the test well is to be drilled will be marked by the NPS as well as the limits of the work site.
