About this file

This document contains a structural analysis memo and details of a related federal contract opportunity. The structural analysis memo provides the results of analyzing existing structural members in Building 341 at FE Warren AFB to determine if they can support a new movable wall system. The analysis found that the 6-inch diameter steel pipe columns and W24x84 and W12x26 beams meet the added dead load of 25 psf for the catwalk and roof, live load of 40 psf for the catwalk, snow load of 25 psf for the roof, and a target carrier system load of 18 psf when combined with the movable wall load of 90 plf and 300-pound horizontal impact load using ASCE 07-10 strength design load factors and load combinations. The related solicitation seeks to purchase, deliver, and install the movable wall system in accordance with the 17 July 2020 statement of work, for the Department of the Air Force Global Strike Command at FE Warren AFB, Wyoming.

Re: Building 341 Firing Range Structural Analysis

Security Forces are considering installing a Moveable Wall System in the Building 341 Firing Range. 90

CES was tasked to analyze the existing structural members prior to purchase and installation of the moveable wall.

Building 341 Firing Range was modified in 1984. At that time, the area had a new concrete foundation/floor installed, new steel columns and beams added, and a Target Carrier System was installed. (See figure 1).

Figure 1 – Structural Member layout

For analysis, the 6” diameter x-strong pipe columns and the W24x84 and W12x26 beams were analyzed.

The existing Target Carrier System still installed was not analyzed.

References used in this analysis include:

ASCE 07-10 “Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures”

2010 AISC “Specification for Structural Steel Buildings”

Drawing S-1 “Framing Plan and Details.

Assumptions and loadings for the analysis are as follows:

Dead Load of 25 pounds per square foot for the catwalk and roof

Live Load of 40 pounds per square foot for the catwalk

Snow Load of 25 pounds per square foot for the roof

Target Carrier system assumed to be 18 pounds per square foot load

Moveable Wall assumed to be 90 pounds per lineal foot with a 300 pound horizontal “impact” load.

The above loads were combined using the strength design load factors and load combinations as stated in ASCE 07-10. Using the data above with the loading combinations, the structural members will be able to support the new Moveable Wall System. If the loading for the Moveable Wall System is higher than listed above, please let me know so that I may revise my calculations.

The above information and analysis is a professional opinion based on a visual inspection made on 16

July 2020, conversations with MSgt Severin, and the references listed above.
