Statement of Work

Project

Demolition and renovation of laboratory space at National Science Laboratory facility, 801 Summit Place, Gastonia, NC

General Information

1.0 Scope of Work

Agricultural Marketing Service’s Science and Technology Program, in collaboration with AMS - Cotton & Tobacco, seeks a contractor to renovate approximately 500 sq ft of existing laboratory space to allow for installation of a walk-in cooler, which will store tobacco standard reference materials.

Contractor Requirements

2.0 Technical Requirements / Tasks

SAM-registered contractor capable of performing and/or managing subcontractors of general construction, e.g. demolition, construction, plumbing, management of electrical and HVAC systems. Contractor will also need to coordinate with vendor installing a walk-in cooler on the placement of electrical and plumbing components.

Contractor will remove two existing walls separating existing laboratory spaces (rooms 54, 55). Walls separating the space connect the foundation with the bottom of the roofing deck. Terminate, relocate, and/or reconfigure electrical, plumbing, and HVAC components including sprinklers, emergency lights, or alarms, where applicable as related to removing the two walls and renovating the space. This will include placement of piping for sprinklers within a walk-in cooler. Extend one existing wall approximately 5 ft in width to establish a separation between laboratory spaces (i.e. separate rooms 55 and 57). Wall extension must connect with the roofing deck to ensure both spaces remain isolated and self-contained as they currently exist. Relocate one door on the main hallway to ensure access to adjacent space (rooms 56, 57). Terminate, relocate and/or reconfigure electrical, plumbing, and HVAC components including sprinklers, emergency lights, or alarms, where applicable as related to the wall extension. Remove and cap existing roof penetration from exhaust hood vent.

Replace or patch concrete floor/foundation where applicable. Maintain existing floor covering where possible. Use existing flooring under new walk-in cooler area to patch flooring under workbenches and demolished walls.

Remove the solid ceiling in existing laboratory spaces (rooms 54, 55) and replace with an acoustical ceiling 2’ x 4’ grid system with square edge “Fissured” panels. Ceilings to be 9’-0” above finished floor and terminate along edges of the walk-in cooler.

Remove in a non-destructive manner and relocate the laboratory benches, cabinets and other identified case work to the warehouse space of the laboratory.
