About this file

This document contains questions and responses regarding requests for information (RFIs) for the demolition and renovation of laboratory space at the National Science Laboratory. The solicitation number is 12639523Q0265 and is being conducted by the Department of Agriculture Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service Marketing and Regulatory Programs Business Services. The RFIs seek information on responsibilities for lighting and electrical work inside a cooler that has not yet been purchased but will be soon after quotes are due on September 15th. Additional questions inquire about how long cooler installation will take after space preparation, what to do with an existing sink drain, and whether sprinkler heads need to be frost proof due to cooler top thickness. Responses indicate the drain should be left accessible, installation timing is unknown, and sprinklers inside the cooler are the vendor's responsibility.

12639523Q0265, Demolition and renovation of laboratory space at National Science Laboratory RFIs

1. Our electrician is asking if he will be responsible for any lighting or electrical on the inside of the cooler? No

1. Our electrician is also requesting cut sheets on the power supply and the location of the power supply on the cooler in order to rough in the wiring. The cooler hasn’t been purchased yet but will be soon after quotes are due on 9/15.

1. BOTR needs information on how long it will take the cooler company to install the cooler after we get the space ready for them. We don’t yet know.

1. What do we need to do with the existing sink drain in the floor to prepare for the cooler? Do we need to cut the concrete and move the drain or is that the responsibility of the cooler company? The drain should be left accessible to the cooler vendor to tie into with a condenser drain line. At the moment we don’t know whether it needs to be moved or temporarily capped above the floor. Let’s assume for the moment it needs to remain above the floor and temporarily capped to prevent gases from escaping until we award the cooler contract.

1. Our Sprinkler Company is asking how thick the cooler top is in order to install frost proof sprinkler heads to service inside of the cooler in order to meet code? The sprinklers being placed in the cooler are the cooler vendor’s responsibility. We expect the vendor will subcontract the work. Demolition vendor just needs to ensure old sprinkler lines are capped/terminated above the proposed cooler location so that the vendor can tap into the lines.
