About this file

This is a specifications document for Union County, Georgia Fire Department's procurement of a 12-foot Quick Attack Fire Apparatus mounted on a Ford F-550 XL Extended Cab chassis. The apparatus is a rescue and quick attack vehicle designed for emergency response in areas with steep terrain requiring an 18-degree minimum angle of departure. The vehicle specification includes detailed requirements for the Ford F-550 chassis with a 6.7-liter diesel engine, 4x4 drive, automatic transmission, and extensive safety and comfort features. The modular body construction requires heavy-duty extruded aluminum with welded joints, six individual enclosed exterior compartments plus one open-air rear compartment, and comprehensive equipment storage with adjustable shelving. The apparatus must be completed within approximately 180 weekdays of chassis receipt. The document specifies precise compartmentation layouts, door configurations with gas strut openers, drainage systems, and ventilation requirements. Additional requirements include a 200-gallon water tank, Hale HPX-300-KBD24 water pump, booster reel with 200 feet of hose, SCBA bottle storage tubes, and specialized equipment mounting provisions.

The specifications mandate extensive electrical systems including 12-volt DC components, LED lighting throughout the apparatus, backup camera and alarm systems, telescopic pole lights, emergency warning lights meeting NFPA 1901 standards, and a custom aluminum front center console with integrated controls. The apparatus must be painted Ford Race Red with Oxford White two-tone cab treatment and feature Diamond Grade reflective Chevron striping, reflective striping packages, and custom lettering matching the department's existing apparatus. The document requires manufacturers to provide a lifetime structural warranty on the modular body and mandates complete assembly at the manufacturer's facility with no field fabrication permitted. A pre-construction conference with the purchasing department must occur to finalize specifications including lettering design, reflective stripe colors, electrical panel layout, compartment lighting placement, and other customization details. The specification emphasizes highest quality craftsmanship standards with no visible paint imperfections and comprehensive NFPA 1901 compliance throughout all systems.

The dissimilar metal corrosion protection shall be applied to all areas that shall have dissimilar metals come into contact with one-another. The dissimilar metal corrosion protection shall be accomplished by using Electrolysis Corrosion Kontrol (ECK) from PPG.

ECK is a coating used to prevent dissimilar metal corrosion of all metals including stainless steel, aluminum, copper, brass, cold rolled steel and black oxide. ECK prevents corrosion by providing a barrier between dissimilar metals, sealing out moisture and absorbing energy created by a dissimilar metal reaction. ECK can be applied by aerosol or liquid on an unpainted or painted surface. Once applied, the coating does not need to be reapplied during routine maintenance. ECK is dielectric and can be used on electrical connections.

ECK is the only patented corrosion coating proven to prevent dissimilar metal corrosion (electrolysis, galvanic, mag & cal-chloride corrosion). ECK corrosion coating is safe to use in all types of manufacturing and production operations. Aircraft, Ambulance, Bus & Transit, Fire & Emergency, Tractor Trailer, Utility Trucks, Vocational / Refuse and several other types of manufacturing that assemble with dissimilar metals, should require ECK corrosion coating to protect their products from dissimilar metal corrosion.
