About this file
This Appendix B - Scope of Work document outlines a contract for 24/7 emergency response and semi-annual preventative maintenance of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) units at Ames National Laboratory. The one-year contract includes three optional renewal years, covering comprehensive maintenance for all UPS components such as battery units, cabling, capacitors, fans, and connections. Key service requirements include 24/7 incident phone support, 4-hour technician callback, next-business-day on-site response, and two annual on-site maintenance visits (one minor in early spring and one major in late fall).
The maintenance services mandate factory-trained and certified field engineers who will perform detailed inspections and tests, including downloading UPS logs, checking alarm histories, measuring battery voltages, visual equipment inspections, and verifying system operations. Safety is a critical focus, with contractors required to follow NFPA 70E safety standards, Ames Lab Electrical Safety requirements, and work under strict security protocols including two-person teams and escorted site access. The contract explicitly excludes certain wear parts like external batteries and full capacitor replacements, with corrective maintenance limited to the power module and necessary repairs.
